Icing?

Featured Replies

Can anyone on the beta team advise as to how icing is handled in the NGX? I'm not expecting much in the way of airframe icing simulation, but is engine icing simulated

If I am not mistaken FSX simulates icing and engine icing by both reducing engine performance and adding weight [ice weight] to the aircrafts gross weight the longer you fly in icing conditions. ASE magnifies this accumulation factor by 10 I think.

Take-offs are optional, landings are mandatory.
The only time you have too much fuel is when you're on fire.
To make a small fortune in aviation you must start with a large fortune.

There's nothing less important than the runway behind you and the altitude above you.
It's better to be on the ground wishing you were in the air, than in the air wishing you were on the ground.

This was covered about a week or so ago in an obscure post. They said the de-icing systems on the 737NG work so well that they did not want to waste animations/coding on doing icing simulation. They combared it to the J-41 in saying only that the anti-icing systems on that have trouble keeping the ice down which is why they chose to model it on that... I wish I could remember exactly where it was to link it, but there have been 100's of posts since then. Am sure others will chime in on it though. EDIT: Wanted to clarify the "wasting coding" before it gets taken out of context. Not that the systems themselves are not modeled, but that they effects of icing are not to my knowledge. At least that is what I got out of the post.
