December 23, 200322 yr I have been flying the excellent freeware F16. I have been thinking about maybe going for the Lago version. Can anyone give any input on this. I was interested in the different models availible for the Lago version and I have really liked what I see in the panel. I just hope to get a little help in making the decision. Thank youAndrew Andrew
December 24, 200322 yr The F-16 is my favorite fighter, so I know how you feel! The freeware version and the Lago version are both very good, and I wasn't sure myself, but I got both and like both.Lago does have the edge as far as panels are concerned...many systems are modeled and the detail is great. Lago also has the refueling module for those interested in a challenge. There are also many different versions, including F-16A,B,C,D with numerous load outs. In my opinion, the flight dynamics are better in the Lago version...it even simulates the automatic flaps/leading edges. The freeware version has the edge in modeling however. The general look and feel of the freeware version is better in my opinion...more realistic. The freeware version also gives me better FPS, but that may be system dependent, so ask around abou that. Kirk's F-16 models are the best I've seen anywhere. Both versions now have a ton of repaints, but Lago will probably have more. My suggestion is to treat yourself to the Lago version if you can afford it. I think that you will be satisfied. Call it an xmas present for yourself!Good luck!
December 24, 200322 yr I agree - I have both, and they are both excellent designs. Lago has the edge in the 2D and VC views, I think. Also, Lago models the aircraft systems more accurately. As for the visual model, it's sort of split. While Kirk's visual model and textures are superior, in my opinion, Lago does offer a variety of models and many more textures included with their distribution. Add to that the extra textures and the huge support of the user base for creating even more textures, and I think Lago might have a slight edge.Still, Kirk's model is excellent, and best of all it is free.- Martin My site: www.martinstrong.com/FS_Project.htm
December 24, 200322 yr Hey,I can only agree with the previous comments made here, the Lago Viper is awesome! I also have Kirk's model and that is very nice too although I've not flown it since I bought the Lago one.As for repaints, there are a few awesome painters at the Lago forums who have released some great repaints. Go to [a href=http://www.f-16.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk]THIS[/a] site to find tons of them. Also follow the links on that site and you'll find even more. All in there are over 100 repaints for the Viper.I'll also take this opportunity to blatantly plug my own small fix for the panel. All the fix does is add a GPS click spot and an avionics on/off switch. You can find more info and the download link [a href=http://www.ibsw08346pwp.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/Lago_panel_fix.html]HERE[/a].I can't really say enough about this plane, it's great :)The only things I don't like about them are the gun effects and b!tching betty (talks too much for the kind of flying I do ;)) both of which I've removed (very easily).Hope this has helped.CheersDavid
