CTD patch does not work

Featured Replies

Ciao all,well... actually the patch solves most of the CTDs... but unfortunatly not all! Always in winter... always over Alps.... always with non default landclass... with Italy Landpack (http://www.aliditalia.com/downloads/Italylandpack-versione4.zip) near Zirigh and with the patch installed I get thousands of crashes... :-(I had many other confirm about it... any solutions?Ciao, Arrex/2

Ciao Arrex/2,I suppose you are italian.Well, I'm italian too! But, strange enough, I think we have to speak english, since this is an english speaking forum!I confirm what you wrote, and I must admit that I'm "happy" for not being alone. In the past two weeks I've DESPERATELY been trying to take off from Zurich or Torino airports. NO CHANCE! I've been having literally, as you said, THOUSANDS of CTD's!There is no way I can fly for more than 5 minutes before the damn thing happens! The CTD fix didn't work for me, either.Writing a list of the things I tried to do to get rid of this problem would take me all day. I will be formatting soon, but I'm afraid (quite sure, actually) it's useless.I have Italy Landpack installed as well, and the bad news is that CTD's happen even with default land-class.As a matter of fact, it happens regardless of add-ons. It's just there, deeply coded into the sim, and it will probably stay there untill 2006!It's a real sucker for us living (or flying) near the Alps (I'm from Torino).I haven't been able to use the sim for the past 15 days.I've been wasting my time sitting in front of my computer tweaking, un-installing, re-installing and messing around like an idiot.I'm afraid this bug is one big FIGLIO DI...(SOB, for everyone else), and I've lost my confidence and hope in having it solved. The problem is that my interest for the simulator is fading as well.At least I know you can sympathize with me.Let's keep in touch.luca

You both are not alone, and CTD are not only happening near the Alps. I get them too in some other places, especially US (Seattle, Salt Lake, Denver and surroundings, during winter). I only have default scenery plus Ultimate traffic and Fs Navigator. Hope MS hear us !!Regards, Gabriel.PS. Have applied the CtD seasonal patch and has improved overall. But I'm still getting some of those annoying CTD. No messages and no warnings. Sometimes the whole system shuts down and my computer reboots. Amazing uh? :-hmmm

Not an expert in geography, but it looks like it has something to do with high altitude and/or mountainous areas. I'd play with 3D and scenery settings and disable the default.xml file for autogen to lower your resource requirements. You might also list your video and ram specs to see if you share any common set ups.

Same problem here. It seems to have solved maybe 90% of the CTD's. I have disabled the default.xml file. Still tweaking other settings but so far no effect. My system:ASUS P4P800 w/2.8ghz P4 (hyperthreading enabled)ATI Radeon 9800Pro (128mb)1GB Kingston PC3200Creative SB Live GamerTried with both add-on terrain and default, same results. I agree this is an issue that Microsoft needs to issue a patch for. I'm getting tired of having software thrown out to us, and then relying on 3rd party individuals to come up with fixes to the problems (see Flight Sim 2000 for an example), it's getting pretty old. I for one won't buy the next version of the sim if they don't fix this one.Jim

Did y'all by chance try the original work around and just change the date to before 21 November or after 1 Jan? This has been working for everyone I've seen even without the global CTD patch. The problem has to do with the way FS handles the transitional season scenery, most notably when snow begins to appear on/around the airport. The date change obviously does away with a bit of the realism, but it's a heck of a lot better than continual CTD's. How realistic are those?-------------------Racartronit means something, but I just can't remember what

RacartronUnfortunately I too have been bit by the bug and up until just recently didnt know what a CTD even was... I sure do now thou. I have tried all the patches including adding textures with no luck. Dead center in the middle of the Rocky mountains between Vancouver and Calgary I get a consistant ctd everytime. I even changed the date for the flight to 7Aug and got the CTD at the same exact location. I suspect I may have to change the date on the computer not just on FS9. I too am getting quite frustrated with this program. I feel from what I have read in other forums talking about fresh out of the box installs reacting in the same manner with CTD's that this is a major problem for this program and for Microsoft. If Microsoft doesn't do something and soon this will fester and tarnish their reputation for good. As a person who has bought every flightsim from FS95 and up this bug appears to be one that is fatal for this program. I will not use a program that is going to consistantly crash on me. Where the hell is the enjoyment in that? After reading everyones messages I just had to add my 2 cents,,,my therapist says its good not to keep these things bottled up inside.:-mad Don

As I've mentioned elsewere.....My two year old Athlon 1900 has had a few CTD's, which vary much with different drivers. Yet, my month old P4 2.8 laptop hasn't had one CTD --- yet, & the Rocky Mtn. area is where I usually always sim fly. No tweaking either, just display setting changes.L.Adamson
