An interesting failure

Featured Replies

I just fired up the SF260 and bounced it badly on takeoff. After selecting external view, I was surprised to find the following:http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/55959.jpgThe gear indicator lights show 1 green light for the nose gear. I didn't know FS2004 was this sophisticated. There are no failure options in the menu for partial gear failure. I'm pleasantly surprised. Hope MS will keep adding these kind of failures. :D

BTW, I was unable to save the SF260.;( The nose gear collapsed while landing. Even more realism.:7

Hi There,Glad to see the SF260 is reacting as it should! If you wanted to do a gear up landing without invoking MSFS's crash routine, or resetting the flight, turn off crash detect and you should be able to do a belly flop gear up landing. If you keep the stick well back after contact, you should see sparks and hear some nice grinding noises...the aircraft should come to rest intact.Cheers,Rob Young = RealAir Simulations

So I guess we owe this bit of realism to realair simulations, and it's not fs2004 default behaviour? I've always wanted damage modelling like this. Still looking for realistic engine wear though. Shock heating and shock cooling should be a part of the simulation but FS2004 is not that far yet. Maybe the addon designers will come up with something in the future.Too bad the MS crash modelling is triggered so easily. I remember the Flight Unlimited days, where you could rip a wing off and happily taxi along. I always tried to clip both wings in the cessna and drive around without wings. I even parked a cessna on the wing of a boeing once and was taken for a ride. :DThanks again realair, for the realism.Marty

Well, it's a standard feature in FS - take any aircraft, and land it hard ... whenever you see sparks, one of the contact points are destroyed, I suppose - including gears.-DanielPS.: "I even parked a cessna on the wing of a boeing once and was taken for a ride. :D"really? no way, dude! I gotta try that :D

FS2002 did this as well. I was flying either the 747 or the 777, don't remember because that was the first and last time I flew it. I just took it up for the heck of it. I rotated too early I guess, and it lifted off but came back down pretty hard then bounced up again. I got enough airspeed to climb out. I retracted the gear, and when I switched to the external view, part of the main gear was stuck half way extended.

You shouldn't have to disable the crash detection. I have crash detection enabled, and I've done gear up landings where I've skidded to a halt without it resetting the sim.
