Laptop for FSX and the NGX

Featured Replies

Hi guys (and one lass) I've ended up in this, rather nice, situation that I have to go to Istanbul, Turkey for 3/4 of a year to fly the Airbus A320 range. So since I cannot take my computer with me, I need a laptop. I have been seaching around and made up some requirements. It has to be sturdy as I may have to use it in the cockpit. It has to run FSX and the NGX. Musn't be to big and to heavy. Screen size 15,6". So with all that in mind here is what I am proposing: Toshiba Satelite L755-149Intel i3-380M 2,53ghz4GB 1066mhz DDR3 Ram1GB NVIDIA GeForce GT 525MHarddrive 640GB 5400RPM I couldn't find this excact model on Toshibas website, but what is your opinion. Kind regards,

I hold a EASA fATPL + A320 SIC rating and a FAA CPL with CFI rating.

People suggest an i5 2500k Sandy Bridge. hold on till someone with more knowledge on systems for FSX can view your post and help you out. NGX has really up the hardware sales that's defi.

Have a look at mine. Runs the all those addons listed just fine. It's a little stuttery in heavy airports like EGLL. And is a bit slow in FSDT KJFK but I am using 100% UT2 traffic so that's probably why.

Hi Di, I won't be running nearly as many addons as you. It's the bit in betwean the airports that I find interesting. like how to salvage a decend when ATC leaves you 5000feet high. Or maximizing fuel. Your system looks good. Only thing I've not so good experience with Dell. How much was it? I have a budget of 400£ (actually it's 4500dkr). I think I need to shop more around. As fsx is cpu bound do you think the graphics card that comes with the i5 is enough for fsx? talking about the Intel HD Graphics 3000. @ ironmaiden: I suggest you re-read my post. the i5-2500k doesn't come in as a mobile device. Thanks,

Oh. Mine was £700 on sale from £900 haha. A little over your budget. In that case I think that toshiba you recommended is good. Have a look at Dell anyway. Their new 2nd generation Intel processor laptops are really good. Mine runs the NGX VC at 75% sliders, 100% traffic at 25-30FPS smoothly. But don't go for integrated. My laptop also has integrated 3000 HD intel and it runs really slow. The GT525M runs it well.

Martin, Im presuming the 15.6" limit is related to the size of your carrying case? If you could swing another inch and a half and a few LBS, might I suggest that you search for a notebook that has a desktop class I7? See my specs below or perhaps search for the next gen Clevo X7200. The D900F is no longer made, but you could certainly find one on the open market with the 480M video card. The D900f has a native 1920-1200 resolution vs 1920-1080 for the X7200. The notebook fits into my flight case nicely (now that my company has gone e pub). FSX with all of the popular addons runs nicely on it.
