January 3, 200422 yr Hello,Just a Sim Pilot here with an observation. This is not a gripe about any one product - just a frustration. As the hobby of Sim Flying has progressed, so has the demand for addons and their related complexity also advanced. Recently, I have noticed a growing number of product interactions that are causing strange performance of my sim in an ever growing set of conditions. Unravling their interactions is not a part of my plan for learning to fly my sim.First I noticed that as I updated my registered version of FSUIPC, some of my addons began to perform strangly. I went back to older versions of the FSUIPC to regain performace and had to try each new version over and over. When I added a tweek for loading FS "high", the Reality XP GPS stopped working. The Addition of AS2004 looked great until I noticed that my SSW Airbus would not process the CDU correctly. I finally went back to older versions of each support addon and stabalized the sim. Granted, I am a sucker for each new addon! I treat this Sim as a hobby and should be more careful with the integration of each new tool. But at these prices, I would hope that the market would not create such complexity - benchmark testing would help. THANK GOODNESS FOR THIS FORUM AND THE PATIENT MEMBERS WHO HAVE HELPED ME GET "INTO THE AIR".I don't know what the BETA testing philosophy is for the "big" addons like PSS, PMDG, FLITE 1 , DF Etc but I would respectfully hope that they are tested with what I would call "benchmark" products that affect a wide range of my fellow Sim Flyers. Not limited to - but certainly minimum, many of us are using Ultimate Traffic, FSUIPC, AS2004 and the big AC Addons like PSS Airbus, SSW Airbus, DF Aircraft and Flight 1 products like the Meridian. The performance issues are more dependant on our hardware but the interaction of the products is what is becoming my concern. The "death" of the support for my beloved A320 PIC concerns me too - but I can get along with flying the one I have so long as I minimize the addons that I run with it.I will continue to fly and enjoy my Sim - I really love this thing and have become pretty proficient at GA, Airbus and 737 flying. I hope that the growing complexity will be dealt with, by the developers, with a growing sense of concern and the appropriate amount of "bench testing"Thanks for listening and I would be really interested in other Sim Flyers opinions on the subject.Ron Sagelnear [email protected]
