January 3, 200422 yr I don't think there is much you can do - you could try running the game in a window, so FS won't disappear of the screen in the first place. Or get a second monitor for other apps ;)-Daniel
January 4, 200422 yr Hello All,Well, don't think that will work either, I run fs in a large window, and my other apps in a second monitor with XP and I get the black screen of death also. Matter of fact, since I have added considerable scenery and outside programs, the CTD has become more freqent over and over.Nothing I have tried including the CTD patch has seemed to work.My next step is to remove everything but aircraft from FS and see what happens then. It no CTD, then we'll add scenery one by one until it crashes again, and that one then goes to the dumper.Clay
January 4, 200422 yr Shay, I don't believe the seasonal CTD patch is of much importance to you. Check http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...64441&mode=full .I think your crashing has to do with the sim losing priority over other programs, and switching it back is making it crash sometimes. But I could be wrong.-Daniel
January 4, 200422 yr I have the same problem. One solution that works is to switch from full screen mode to windowed mode. Then press shift + 1 to get back the cockpit window. Once that is fixed you can switch back to full screen mode. I have found that switching views is a very risky move in FS9. I also have 9800 pro and latest drivers.Mark. Mark CYYZ
January 4, 200422 yr Hello All,Yes, agreed, switching views is a most risky business in FS9. I have suffered with CTD's now to the point where I have finally decided to eliminate all the addon scenery and add them one by one to find what the problem is. True it will be a lengthy process, however in the long run it will be worth it. I have tried all the patches and none of them seem to work for me.On another note, I just recently switched my files in XP pro from FAT 32 to NTFS . . and I am hoping that it will help FS run much better. Will let you know how it turns out.Best to all,Clay
January 5, 200422 yr Hello All,Well, tried the above . . . removed all add on scenery except KBOS, (THE OLD VERSION) and flew for about 1 1/2 hours, got aircraft to altitude, 15k, and just put the damend thing on AP. Still a CTD, however it did take much longer. This was with a Ariane 737 with their sound package, and panel.Going to start from scratch this morning, with a 'stock' aircraft and NO addon's at all and see what happens. On another note, after the NTFS switch, one game with occasionaly did a CTD also was 'Rainbow Six 3 Raven Shield'. (OK, I'm a Clancy fan, ), and now it performs flawlesly . . hmmm. will keep you all posted.Clay
January 5, 200422 yr Ok,Tried all the above, however didn't remove all the AFCAD files from addon. Started out at KBOS, stock scenery, headed 270 degrees, ran for about 40nm at 15k, locked up.......no black screen, just locked. Now, have removed all AFCADS, turned off Active Camera sound and heading due south from KORD . . . AND THIS TIME HAVE LEFT FS NAV OFF.Will see how long this puppy will fly . . . there has to be a cure for this someplace!Film at eleven,Clay
January 6, 200422 yr I think we are getting our definitions mixed up here. The missing main cockpit view is what this thread is about. When you switch views and then go back to cockpit view it is gone (black screen) or black screen on bottom half with sky on top half.CTD - Crash to Desktop, I think is something different where the sim crashed, closes down. In the view issue I can still fly and eventually get back the view in CTD I think your flight is gone and you have to restart. Please let me know if this is incorrect.Mark. Mark CYYZ
January 6, 200422 yr Mark,You are right. Though I encountered CTD several times, the issue of this thread is the black window resulted after switching between. I see that others, even with Nvidia cards having the same phenomena so the outcome so far is that it
January 6, 200422 yr Hi MarkMy problem is only with FS9 (not with FS2002)and when SbRelay, Sbhost and SB are running, then, when I switch back to full window .... bingo, black screen (only the FS one). When these addon's are not running, switching views, switching to and from full window are no problem.I tried several settings and drivers for my GF Ti 4200 with no luck :-(Thanks in advance for any help,Regards
