August 19, 201114 yr Hi guys! I own several top airliners so I think the next logical step would be to buy some some decent weather engine and graphic enhancements. I was thinking about buying REX 2.0 but I noticed this software is very large (15 GB disc space required). So I went to HiFiSim website and I discovered that your software is significantly smaller (0.5-1 GB). However there are several similar programs being sold and I don't know what to buy to get REX 2.0 equivalent. I should add I have FSX SP2. So what you can advice me at this point?
August 19, 201114 yr Hi, Thanks for your interest in our products! For weather we suggest Active Sky Advanced. For graphics we suggest X Graphics. Sorry, but those 2 are not bundled together as one purchase, but must be purchased separately.
August 19, 201114 yr Author I have just bought ASE and REX. Hope both will be working together flawlessly.
August 20, 201114 yr Author Hi, it's me again. Tell me if Graphics Snapshots are needed in my situation. I had created one textures theme in REX 2.0 and loaded it into FSX. Next I ran ASE, took its Snapshot and saved it in the Universal category. So it is necessary at all and whether or not I must load this snapshot via Install Graphic button before every flight? How would it work if I made different snapshots for each weather category (universal, clear, stormy,...)?
August 20, 201114 yr Hi, Once a Snapshot is installed into FSX it remains there until you change it. If you made multiple SS, and we suggest that you do, then you only need to submit a SS when you wish to change textures. No problem with the questions. We are glad to help you out.
August 20, 201114 yr Author So I can do several different graphical themes in REX, load them into FSX and the take their snapshots in ASE each time. After doing that I won't have to load REX anymore but ASE snapshots will choose appropriate REX theme by changing its texture sets in FSX? Will you give me any short algorithm how to do it?
August 20, 201114 yr 1. Correct. 2. Partially correct. You wont have to load REX, but you still tell ASE when to send a new SS to FSX. ASE will ask if you process a flight plan or you can use the Install Graphics Snapshot Icon. This whole process is under your control. 3. Take a few more SS and then use ASE for a bit and things will become clearer.
August 20, 201114 yr Author So tell me only how to use "Enable selected snapshot for Auto Select" option?
August 20, 201114 yr Hi, Not a problem. That Enable option means that the snapshot is able to be chosen by ASE for automatic selection. You'll notice that all SS are enabled by default so you would need to chose a SS to be excluded from auto select. The Reassign button would be used if you wanted to move a SS from one weather category to another.
August 20, 201114 yr Author I have already done that! I've made several themes in REX and saved them as SS in ASE. Now I think it works fine. BTW, FSX can run when I switch SS in ASE?
August 20, 201114 yr Hi, No, all SS switches or any texture switches must be made with FSX closed. Once FSX is started the textures are "locked" into place until you re-start FSX.
