Takeoff speed in the default 737 for FS9

Featured Replies

Hi guys, maybe someone can tell me where I'm going wrong....I'm having difficulty with the default jets in FS9, and the fact they seem to rotate way too early. In 2002, I would throw on the juice, keep the 8 button pressed until reaching approx. 140kts, then press the 2 button and we'd be away into the wild blue yonder. However, in FS9 when I repeat this process the jets (especially the 737) rotate at about 80-90kts regardless on the fact that I'm pushing the 8 button will all my strength. The speed isn't enough, then I get "stall" after takeoff due to the lack of speed. Can someone explain to me why this happens, regardless of fuel/payload weights, and if it's not "as real as it gets" how I can get around it.Reinstalling FS2002 is looking mighty attractive after having FS9 for two weeks....CheersAllblack

double check your trim settings?

Oh? OK.Should I have to, or should they be set correctly as the default? Are you assuming I may have altered them, because I haven't.Cheers

Default trim settings were changed in FS9, at least for GA aircraft. They were nose down in FS2002 which caused aircraft to seem to stick to the runway for some sim pilots who didn't trim.

Just to add to the others' advice, ensure your autopilot is off while you takeoff. You can turn it on later. Dave Vega

Ah ha! I'll have a look at them then. Thanks

Yup, it's off.I'm doing everything exactly as I did in FS2002, so I'm assuming that may be the problem.Tks

Seems to go at aprox 140kts for me.....Flaps at 75%Spoilers ArmedAirbrake to RTOSpeed to 250kts IASAuto Throttle engagedHit TOGARelease Parking BrakeAt about 120kts she feels 'lively', but still a bit heavy, but at 140 she'll lift nicely. Raise the gear at 200ft, engage AutoPilot (Alt, IAS, Hdg), Airbrake to 'off', spoilers 'off', and she's now rising nice and steady. It does however have a sort of slow, sluggish feel.Try one of the FFX/SGA 737's....used with a decent panel (I use the 'Gregs737 panel' available here), and it feels even better with a greater sense of speed, and less sluggish than the default 737, not to mention that it looks great :)

You probably already know this, but the numpad is not a good way to fly in FS2004. You'll be amazed at how much better using a joystick will be.The aircraft in FS2004 aren't designed to be flown with the keypad. If you have money for a joystick, I'd recommend the Microsoft Force Feedback 2 joystick!James

Flaps at 75% ?Seems very high, I've always had them at "3" on the dial. The "Help" area seems to suggest this is correct also. However, I'll give 75% a go, if it fixes the problem then who cares what the "help" people say.....CheersTim
