August 25, 201114 yr Hello. I feel a bit daft asking this question but I cannot seem to find the answer anywhere. I cannot seem to get the comm2 radio to work in the NGX. Comm1 works fine. I did read somewhere on this forum that you need to turn the volume up. I can't figure out for the life of me how to do that. The little knob that you pull to listen to vhf2 lights up but you can't turn it to adjust the volume. So how do I adjust the volume assuming that is all I need to do. I know it's going to be something really silly but I can't seem to figure it. Any Ideas anyone???? Thank's, Martin. Martin Stacey.
August 25, 201114 yr COM1, COM2, COM1 + COM2 all work 100% correctly, both in FREE Flight as well as FSX Multiplayer (so should also work fine on Vatsim -- if it did not, there would be a mass of posts about it from Vatsim Flyers). More interesting, is if the 3rd radio can integrate into FSX's limited 2 Radio system, and substitute from COm1 or COM2 as selected. ( Not tried it yet, but in theory, it could work) Note: Because of the mass of selectors and volume controls, it may not be apparent at forst, the correct combination to get the required radio Configuration to operate.. It's not your Microsoft C172 Radio Stack !!! Well done to PMDG to get the COM radios to operate correctly -- so many payware addons totally mess this up, resulting in only one usable radio in Multiplayer. (or a mass of UDP flooding ... no names mentioned )
August 25, 201114 yr Author Thanks' Geoff. I'm in no doubt that PMDG did model the radio's correctly, but it doesn't answer my question. How do I get Com2 to work???? Volume control????? Martin. Martin Stacey.
August 25, 201114 yr When seeking to get COM 2 to work with VATSIM I was told to select the volume control for VHF2 on the Audio Control Panel and that did the trick for me. Here's the direct quote: http://forum.avsim.net/topic/346094-ngx-squawkbox-integration-issue/page__view__findpost__p__2083380
August 25, 201114 yr Thanks' Geoff. I'm in no doubt that PMDG did model the radio's correctly, but it doesn't answer my question. How do I get Com2 to work???? Volume control????? Martin. In FSX, there is no way to alter the relative volumes of the two COM radios, so any REAL WORLD type controls are unable to do their real world function of altering the COM radio audio levels. I do not beleive the Vatsim Voice client (based on Roger Wilco) has the ability to independantly control the audio levels of COM1 and COM2.If it does, then it's not through a standard FSX SDK interface. Being GUILTY of NOT first reading the 737 manual on the subject, I ended up just playing with the switches, till I found the correct combination to make the Radios operate in the manner I wanted, Once found, it does seem logical, but a little complex. ie TX/RX COM1, TX/RX COM2, TX/RX COM1 + RX COM2, etc etc ON vatsim, it should be easy to see you have it right, looking at the SquawkBox Radio PanelOn FSMP, one can see everyone's COM1/COM2 radio configuration, displayed on the Server Status website. Otherwise, apart from Reading the manual (Oh Horror), it is quite difficult to figure out the right switch combinations.
August 25, 201114 yr Author Thanks' for your reply's. I do not fly online and just wanted to say have fsx atc on com1 and tune atis on com 2 so when i'm i range i'll pick up the atis without losing atc on com 1. I know fsx atc is garbage but i've flown other payware aircraft like this but if i remember the MD11 didn't work properly either. What am I doing wrong??? Martin. Martin Stacey.
August 26, 201114 yr ATIS in FSX has "issues" ( being nice here !!) Very often, when flying towards an airport with ATIS, if you start your flight far enough away, you will obviously (and correctly simulated), not be able to receive that ATIS, till you get closer to the airport. However, even when you get well within range, very often you still cannot pick up the atis, even when you finally land at the airport. FSX seems NOT to have recalculated that you are now within reception range. !! The WORK AROUND is, when you are withing what is the expected reception range, to RELOAD SCENERY, (Using top menu - select scenery option, then just OK out - will reload scenery). After the reload, if you should be picking up the ATIS, you will be. I mention all this, because, if you are uisng COM2 to try to hear the ATIS, and the ATIS itself is NOT WORKING because of the above, you may have thought that NOT HEARING THE ATIS, was dues to not correctly selecting COM2.
August 26, 201114 yr OK, now I agree with the original Poster -- there is something "not quite right" with the Radios.Just did some tests.. (1) COM3 really does NOTHING in FSX. There is no COM3 in FSX, and the PMDG does not allow the selection of the #3 radio to become the FSX COM1 or COM2 radio... so forget that. (2) There there seems to be a "state sequence" error when selecting the COM1 & COM2 Radios. Note: Showing this gets a little complicated, but one comes to the conclusion that the Radios are set up differently, accoring to the Sequence that things are set, despite having the same final Switch Configuration.I cannot believe this is CORRECT -- HERE is a detailed way to reproduce this issue. ( HOTFIX #3 currently installed) Note: The easy way to HEAR what you are receiving on is to set your two Com frequencesi to different ATIS frequences that are within range, then you can hear what Freq(s) you are receiving on. Depending on what SEQUENCE you select, you will get different results. You this end up with different Radio selection for the same final switch selection. THIS CANNOT BE CORRECT, because it means that by looking at the switches, you cannot tell which of two very different configurations you are in. ! SEQUENCE TO REPRODUCE THIS ISSUE Set COM 1 to ATIS freq1 Set COM2 to ATIS Freq 2 Confirm that BOTh ATIS freqs are withing Range !!Now you can tell which Freq you are listening ON, (or BOTH !!) Pilot side COM1 selected, Mic on COM1Co-Pilot side: COM2 selected Mic on COM1 You are now only using COM1, receiving and transmitting on COM1 - listening to ATIS 1 [ok]Now select VHF2 audio (button IN) -- You ae now TX/RX on COM1 (118.10 ) and also RX on COM2 (118.20) Listening to BoTh ATIS 1 & ATIS 2- [ok] Select MIC 2. You are now TX/RX on COM2 (118.20 ) and also RX on COM1 (118.10) -- [ok]Listening to BOTH ATIS Freqs.Looking at selectors, Mic Com1, audio COM2 -- this is what you expect looking at the switches.(If you have Mic selected on COM1, rx audio on COM1 is automatically selected, when if you do not maunally select,You cannot TX on a Freq you are not also receiving on) ------------ OK so far --- Now, deselect COM2 audio, and as expected, we are now ONLY TX/RX on COM1 Now select MIC Com2, and we are correct TX/RX on COM2 ONLY [ok] Manually select Select AUDIO COM2 ONLY - we are still fine, TX/RX on COM2 only [ok] Now select MIC COM1 We are now TX/RX on COM1 ONLY but notice we still have Audio COM2 selected. !! Above, under this swich combination we were TX/RX on COM and RX only on COM2 !!! Looking at the swiches we would EXPECT to be as above, RX/TX on COM1 and RX onl;y on COM2, but in fact, we arenow NOT receiving on COM2. Note: You get the same results, when on Vatsim, listening to two different controllers (or THINKING that you are !! ) -------------------------------------------- Would be helpfull if some others could try this and report back their findings on this issue. If this is, in fact a BUG, its one that can really screw you up, especially when when on Vatsim, and ATC starts blaming you for not responding to them, because youdo not hear them on Freq !!
