FSX Crash on startup when loading PMDG 737NGX

Featured Replies

Yes, still very relevant and there were no other posts that directly addressed the subject.   I know that if I had come across my answer it would help.   If there are others with this issue please feel free to chime in.

I would like to add that whenever I use the PMDG airplane, when I end a flight, FSX doesn't return to the main menu but crashes then as well.   I'm hoping there are others in this situation that may know how to fix or perhaps know if PMDG/Steam is aware of it.

Thanks.

Well this is a documented problem and is addressed in the PMDG 737NGX Introduction Manual on page 36.   They mention that PMDG "products don't like to be loaded on top of themselves" or they can CTD ("crash to desktop"),    This means you need to start with a default FSX plane then select a PMDG livery to avoid a CTD.  If you start with a saved PMDG plane and then change liveries, you will be "loading another PMDG plane on top of another" which can often result in a CTD.  A PMDG flight shouldn't be the default flight either according to the manual.   They say this applies to all PMDG products.   Yes this is a case of RTFM.
