January 10, 200422 yr I don't know about cheapest, but I believe that the best of the 9600 series is the 9600 XT. I purchased the 9600 Pro a few months ago, and I've been very pleased with it, but I understand that the newer XT is better.-- WaltRunning FS2004 at 1280x1024x32Intel Pentium 4, 2.0 GHzWindows XP Pro512MB PC800 RDRAM,8100128MB ATI Radeon 9600 ProCATALYST Windows XP 3.9 video driverDirectX 9.0b19 inch Samsung SyncMaster 955DF MonitorSound Blaster Audigy2 ZSMS ForceFeedback 2 joystick
January 10, 200422 yr I bought a 9600XT about a month ago and I was very impressed indeed with it. The image quality is stunning and the performance is much, much better than my old Ti 4400. I can't personally compare it to the other 9600 series. One thing I do like on the technical side of things is that my 9600XT runs very cool. It's actually is the coolest running video card I have ever had by considerable margin.
January 10, 200422 yr I also bought a Sapphire 9600XT around Christmas and it's a great card, I agree. Much better FPS than with my old ELSA geforce 3 and now I can run with AA on, clouds at 60 miles, everything else pretty much all the way to the right - and still get better FPS than with the old card. Even the stutters are gone. Very recommended! :)Regards,Jurehttp://www.reality-xp.com/community/nr/rsc/rxp-higher.jpg
January 13, 200422 yr I'm using the ATI 9600 PRO 256 MB. It works great, big improvement over my Geforce 3, but it's no 9800 PRO. I kind of wish I'd held off until I could afford the 9800. From what I've read the 9600 XT is only slightly better than the 9600 PRO but costs quite a bit more. This is only what I've read, not from personal experience.David
