Trim setting . .

Featured Replies

Hi all, hope everyone is enjoying the NGX as much as i am. Quick question regarding setting the trim am interested how others go about this. Upon having the trim value calculated in the FMC how have others got there setup to accurately set the trim for takeoff. I dont want to turn on help/tooltips to see the value as i dont need tooltips for anything but this (and i find it tacky etc thats just me). Can the setting be 'roughly' right - if FMC says 4.61 and without tooltips i trim to as accurately as i can tell on the trim wheel/value. Does it have to be spot on? Is 4.5 acceptable or does it have to be axactly 4.61 ? Does the trim have to be set to 2 decimal places or can it be 1 - hope this makes sense. Reason i ask is i get the aural warning on takeoff to signify something isnt set / or takeoff config isnt correct. I have everything set according to checklists etc so i can only pin that it must be the very slight trim setting which is giving me the warning. In real life and from what i can see from the NGX they have modelled the wheel/value settings accurately - so do pilots in the real world just get the setting to as close as to what the FMC caluculates? Any feedback would be great. Cheers

TO config will only sound for trim if it is outside the green band, so it's something else.

...in fact, if it's not trim, basically the only tree other things it could be are flaps not set to a takeoff position, the parking on or spoilers are up.

Ok, that makes sense about the green band. Weird as i have the other items all set correctly. I just reviewed the 1st tutorial again and could not fint a mention of setting the speedbrake for takeoff.

You want the speed brakes down, and the autobrakes to RTO. If the speed brakes are up, you'll have a much much longer takeoff roll.

Yes, don't try arming them either. You won't get a config warning for not setting RTO thought.

In the real world the trim doesn't have to be exact. For example, you can't see 4.3 or 4.6. You will set it close enough. All it does is give you the desirable rotation rate based on CG. Same reason you only look for trim in the green during touch and goes.
