Sound changes in my headphones

Featured Replies

When I move the focal point of the cockpit to the radio panel the sound is different than when I make the focal point the cockpit. The sound quality is actually better if I am looking at the radio stack than looking at the displays. Anyone have any insight on this? Thanks

Ensure your windows sound config is set to 'headphones' not 5.1 pr something along those lines. When switching between views give the 'q' key a cycle. In the PMDG options under sound, ensure the correct audio device is selected - in your case, ensure it's the device your headphones are plugged in.

Where is this file found?

Don Lillard

The sound config is not a file - If using Windows 7 right click on you little speaker in the task barClick playback devicesSelect the device your headphones are plugged intoShould be a settings button (on phone now can't check)...that's where you can check to ensure 'Headphones' is selected.

I already did this. Have you noticed that if you move the hat switch in any direction that the sound changes? As an example if I move the hat switch left the sound in my right ear decreases and vice versa. Also when I release the parking brake the sound becomes a little more muffled. This is true on the MD11 also.

Hmm...I can't think of any real explanation of why you're experiencing what you are experiencing...:( Yes the sound will change a bit as your viewpoint moves in the flight deck...as it would in the real-world...but what you are describing above makes no sense to me regarding the park brake. Not to push the point but are you sure windows doesn't think your headphones are a 5.1 set-up...or perhaps some external audio config program (you know, the ones packaged with sound cards and stuff nowadays.) What type of headphones are you using? What port are they plugged into...do you use a combined speaker w/ separate headphone out set-up? Do you have the correct audio-device selected in the PMDG options interface in the FMC? Can you hear the packs/avionics when you first boot up the aircraft from cold/dark? I wanna fix this issue for ya, the sounds are a blast on this aircraft, you're really missin out.

I am using Sennheiser 280 pr with a very low frequency response. I can also hear the sound changes to a lesser extent through my external speakers. Have you tried to dupicate this issue? The correct audio device is selected in WIN 7 and NGX. I have no idea what a 5.1 set up is. I have not tried the cold and dark. I do have good quality sound through my headphones especially at low frequencies which is why I bought them to listen to the engines spool up and down. This issue is only when I move the hat switch. Thanks Don

A 5.1 set-up is a surround sound set up. Five speakers w/ one sub channel. Untitled-2.jpg In this window, you can confirm that your device attached to the headphones is selected to Stereo? The only way I can sort of duplicate what you're describing is by selecting the wrong audio device in the PMDG Audio Options - I hear some engine sounds (that are coded through the default FSX sound engine) but not much else. When you power up the aircraft, and apply AC power, do you hear lots a racket/noise/fans going on? Beautiful headphone selection by the way. Not using any wonky headset adapters or anything?
