January 16, 200422 yr O.K. take a look at this picture and look at the Flight Director (FD) in the Attitude Indicator (AI) and the ILS approach on the VOR2 and the Horizontal Situation Indicator (HSI).This was an approach last night while it was snowing into Rochester (KROC). I tuned everything right I know that. I was landing on ILS Rwy 4 and APP was on, NAV1, MRK, and DME were all turned on.Obviously in this case I'm a little too high on the glideslope but pretty straight on the localizer. However, the FD tells me that I'm way off the Localizer. I've noticed many times that if I were to actually follow the FD I'd end up on the ground like 50 feet before the runway. In this case the FD is telling me to drastically turn right and this is not the only time. While VOR2 and the HSI clearly show that a small correction to the right would get me in straight.I like flying with the FD but I can't trust it anymore, I nearly landed on a house short of the runway once looking at the FD. I now just look at my VOR2 and the HSI.Is there something that I'm doing wrong or is the Flight Director just crazy or is it way too sensitive? Given the height I'm still relatively lined up alright with the runway. I can afford to be a little high since the C208B doesn't need much runway to stop.Anyone have any ideas on this?
January 16, 200422 yr What Picture? Are you referencing a screenshot? Do you want us to anallyze the flight from your textual information? Thanks
January 16, 200422 yr >What Picture? Are you referencing a screenshot? Do you want>us to anallyze the flight from your textual information?>>Thanks>The file which is a jpeg is attached under my signature. It's simply titled Attachment #1. Just click it and it will open the picture, it's a bit fuzzy because I had to crop it down for memory size. It should open, take a look and tell me what you think of that FD. Thanks.
January 16, 200422 yr The FD is more sensitive than the ILS/VOR. You are off to the left of the ILS, the FD is indicating the direction you need to go to correct that. It is not a scaleable instrument in lateral measurement in most GA aircraft, only vertical. It does not indicate desirable bank angle, only pitch.Allcott
January 16, 200422 yr Before I answer your question, I need to defer to someone who knows if this Caravan's FD is like the original Cessna Caravan's FD or a generic one put in all a/c.But, if it is the correct fd, in Cessna Caravans, I believe that you line up the horizon with the fd indicator bars, or something like that. I vaugely remember there being something backward about Cessna Caravan's fd's, I'm sure someone else will remember. It was modeled back in FS98 in a great panel. But, I'm with you, the stock fd's don't fly like the real thing. I disregard anything they tell me. When we fly the PC-12(RW), I just follow the fd prompts and I get right down to the spot I'm headed. Same with the old 727 fd I love so much. Flight Directors are great tools, but I just don't know if Microsoft took the time to do it right, or it's impossible wihtin FS right now.A long post to not even answer your question, who are these yeahoos in this forum?:+
