Help needed, strange things going wrong with FSX.....

Featured Replies

This one has me beat, I'm not sure what the issue is. If anyone has seen anything like this or has an idea I would much appreciate any help. This happened exactly the same way twice now, the first time last night I thought it was just one of those one- time things that occasionally happen. Turn on PC ( today it has been for all day before running FSX, yesterday sx was run minutes after the PC was turned on). Start FSX, load the NGX 800 WL SWA paint. Go into EZCA and adjust the VC view, so far ok. Go into the left wing view I have created, once again go into EZCA to adjust the view. Then after moving the eye point around with the keyboard, the keyboard ceases to move the eye point any more. Shut down FSX and restart, note that FSX wants to have me ok permissions to load all my addons, and when FSX does run the graphics are all screwed up with pieces of aircraft everywhere. Shut down FSX again, note that the keyboard is inoperative in Notepad. Also note that I can not access "Computer" in the Win 7 menu with the mouse, although the mouse does work to shut the PC down. Restart PC, now I can get to "Computer" in Win 7, and note that FSX.cfg has been rebuilt, so is lacking all of the customized settings. Hence the screwed up graphics above when re- launching FSX, I assume. Restore FSX.cfg with a backed up version, FSX starts ok, looks good. Reload the same NGX plane and adjust EZCA and the same thing happens again. Several things come to mind. Maybe the keyboard goes to overflow after the many key presses in EZCA, but since the keys are being executed up to the time when it appears to lock, that doesn't seem to explain it. And why would that trash FSX.cfg, or cause FSX to rebuild the file? And why would the mouse fail to access "Computer"? My PC is an i7 with 6GB of RAM. GPU is a GTX 460. Everything has gone perfectly since it was last rebuilt to the i7 CPU early in January of this year, and it has been used every night for FSX. The only thing I did before this issue started was to load a Megascenery scenery tile, which in between last night's episode and today's was removed . Thanks for any help. Bruce. Edit> I have just conformed that this same thing happens with the FSX stock C172, if I press the keyboard enough times when in EXCA. And- more info on the mouse issue in Win 7- the mouse will work to shut down the PC (as stared above), and will execute any programs, but will not open "Computer" (as also stated above), nor "Control Panel", "Music", "Pictures", "Documents" anything on the right side bar of the programs menu. Keyboard is hosed for any programs that I have tried until PC is rebooted. Still puzzled... Thanks, Bruce.

Is the KB a stock PS2, a USB KB, or wireless KB, Bruce?

Hi Paul, It's a USB keyboard, a Logitech G15. Thanks, Bruce. Edit: Also- although "Computer" and other system applications such as "Documents" will not open with a left click of the mouse, they will with a right click, then choose "Open". Thanks, Bruce.

So, I decided to look at the EZCA configuration. Went to "Configure FSX", which always runs a very fast process and reports that all planes have been configured- usually. This time I get a "Worldcam offsets search engine" that gets launched when I try to "Configure FSX", which finds an issue with Acceleration not being installed- I've never seen this before. Not sure if maybe this tread belongs in the EZCA forum, or if there is something even mire basic going on here in that my keyboard becomes unusable (until rebooting the PC, and both the left click and scroll wheel on the mouse also become unusable (but not the right click function), until also reboooting the PC. Not to mention the fact that fsx.cfg gets trashed.... this is really weird... maybe I've never used the keyboard do many times before in EZCA. If I decide to not use EZCA, is there a way to assign the various vc and wing views supplied by the designer of an FSX aircraft to yoke buttons? I do have FSUIPC (registered version) on my PC and installed into FSX. Thanks, Bruce.

Perhaps this might help in the not so near-term: EZCA v. 2.0 is being released this fall "soon". Cheers, - jahman.

Thanks jahman, If it is just EZCA then I can live with that- less functionality in views would be a downside- but I'm wondering if I have a PC issue given the lasting effects on keyboard and mouse after FSX is closed.... Thanks, Bruce.

Hi Bruce: I think the aircraft are getting trashed because of the Shaders3 files. This is the typical symptom when the shaders need recompiling. I don't think there's a KB buffer overflow happening: this is Windows 7 and that issue was fixed in XP a long time ago. Sooooo..... first I would remove EZCA back to the download file, at the same time getting rid of the fsx.cfg, so that fsx rebuilds a new one; also at the same time delete the Shaders cache folder in C:\Users\[your user id]\AppData\Local\Microsoft\FSX\Shaders... Then restart the pc & fsx and see what happens. You need a baseline.

Thanks Paul, I have just gotten back to FSX tonight- thanks for your reply. I uninstalled EZCA v1.17, deleted the shader files, and deleted fsx.cfg. Rebooted, started FSX. At the startup screen I noted the weird aircraft in "pieces", however I have been able to fix this by uploading my fsx.cfg to Bjote's site where lines are added- including the Shader 3 line. All look OK now with the textures on the aircraft. Am about to reinstall the originally downloaded version of EZCA and see what happens! Thanks, Bruce.
