Computer Upgrades

Featured Replies

So I'm thinking of doing a computer upgrade since FS2004 is becoming an obsolete program for me and I want to get on board with FSX and the PMDG 737NGX. My problem though is that my FPS are pretty low usually in the 10-20 scale (using the PMDG 737NGX, sliders set in a mid-range, 0% traffic and no addons of any sort). So know I am wondering what would be more important to update in order to achieve high performance: my cpu (Intel Pentium E5200 oc @ 3.06 ghz) or my graphics card (nvidia geforce GTS 250)? Also, just to add in, I have been looking at the intel i7 2600k as a new cpu (as well as a new MoBo since my current one isn't the right socket size). Anyways heres my specs: ASUS P5G41-M LE MoBoIntel pentium E5200 oc @ 3.06 ghz CPUNvidia Geforce GTS250 @ 738 mhz 512 MB DDR3Patriot 6400EL 2 GB (x2) MemorySeagate Hardrive - 500 MBWD 1110 - 1 TB (backup storage)Windows 7- 32 bit (Soon to be upgraded to 64 bit) What do you guys think? Also feel free to let me know if I should be upgrading any other component on my computer that I just listed. Thanks :D

It sounds like your on a busget so I would be going for an i5 2500k instead of an i7 2600k, unnoticeable difference in FSX. For the mobo, I would be going for an ASRock motherboard. Good, solid and cheap. Probably a Z68 Extreme 3. You will also need to upgrade the RAM to some DDR3. Go for G.Skill because IMO they are the best value and great performance. Probably some 1333 CL7 if your on the budget. Your gonna want to do some OCing because even the i5 2500k at stock speeds will lag in FSX when you throw all at it. You can do a bit of OCing on stock cooler but you should probably get an aftermarket cooler. Something like a Hyper 212+ from Coolermaster. Make sure you case is well ventilated and you have a good quality PSU. You are still gonna struggle in FSX with that GPU. Once you have enough funds you want to go for something like a GTX 560 (Ti). Good on you for going to 64bit windows. Hope this helps,
