ASE WX Config Question

Featured Replies

OK, this is the next question I have, and this one has me very puzzled. Instead of using live downloaded weather, I have been attempting to use the WX Config option. I will copy a valid METAR from a weather site and paste it into ASE (please see pic below). I then select the Application Range to Global as I'm flying in a fairly small area and the station for the METAR is about 70 nm away from where I am. I then hit the "Apply Weather" button, and you get the window you see below. All looks ok. ASE_ConfigWx1.jpg However, FSX does not seem to actually receive this weather. You will note the winds at 17007 in the METAR, but 320 at 6 kts (seems to be the standard that FSX produces no matter what is in ASE for some reason) (see below). You will also note there is considerable cloud cover. In fact, this is pretty much the weather I had the day before. FSX_ConfigWx1.jpg Here is a close up of the line at the top in case you can't read it: FSX_ConfixWx2.jpg Now here is the full report from FSX: Wind 320 at 6 ktVisibility 20 miLight CloudsTemperature 41, Dewpoint 37Altimeter 29.53 Some of that is correct, but the winds, visibility and clouds are not. My question then is, what is causing the deviation from ASE? Which winds do I believe, and why is it almost 180 degrees from reported? Lastly on this, I'm not sure what the "Parse METAR" button is supposed to do. What I DO know is that if I hit it, it crashes the program. Thanks for your help on this once again. This one is really confusing to me and I would like to use this feature much more than I do now. Glenn Davy PS - FYI, I have read the manual through for these answers prior to posting, and have done some searches here, although I'm not exactly sure what search words to us for this situation. Thanks again.

Hi Glenn, The problem I think is that the METAR is not "RAW" and includes elements other than expected including AUTO. This is probably why PARSE METAR is failing, but you do indeed need to "PARSE" to get the above weather conditions (in the UI screen) to update to the METAR. Then you should "Apply". Certainly AS should not be "crashing" however, and this may be a bug. I will take a look at this METAR string provided and assuming we can duplicate the problem we'll get it fixed ASAP. In the mean time please try again without the AUTO or the RMK section (the altimeter should be the last element). Does it work then to PARSE?

OK Damien, getting rid of those added parameters seemed to help a great deal. I didn't get any crashes from parsing the weather, so I think those added codes were the culprit. I still saw anomalies, but because I'm doing so much experimenting, they could easily be generated by my actions. So, I'll play with this for a bit and see how things go as I get to learn the routine better, then if things are wonky to me, I can ask about them then. Thanks very much again for your assistance. It's helping a great deal. Take care for now, Glenn Davy
