Absolutley Lame default 777 virual cockpit!!

Featured Replies

hi everyone, i was just flying the default 777 and then i realised, the vc is terrible! the autopilot switches mainly dont work and you cant see the values dialed in anyway, there is also a big blank screen in the middle! in the 2d cockpit you alter the data shown by the screen, nav engine data etc, but none of that in the vc. has it gone wrong or has anyone else noticed this? is there a decent vc available from anywhere for this otherwise A1 plane?cheers,James

Hi James,Sorry to inform you of this, but unless I am mistaken, an aircrafts' VC is made in and therefor part of the model. In other words the VC is defined in the B777_300.mdl file and cannot be changed unless you have the orginal source files that the aircraft was made with.Jim

:( thats not very good, they made the wright flyers vc very well and the most of the other planes are of a good quality but i guess someone dropped the ball on this one. ahh well, cheers for your reply,James

Hi Again James,You're welcome for the reply. I do want to let you know something more about this. You can edit where gauges are placed in a VC. You could for instance add a gauge to that big blank spot in the middle. It is just the bitmap that is not editable. I have never flown the default 777 nor any 777 in MSFS, yet, so I do not know how big this blank spot is. But you could for instance place the GPS there(the GPS is just another gauge). To do this though you need to know where to place it and what size to make the gauge in order to fill the spot properly, and I am not quite that advanced of 'panel.cfg' file editor. I can only offer you the following info... the last four numbers are pixel(?) placement and size of a gauge. The following for instance...{VCockpit01}...gauge00=Boeing777-300!PFD, 0, 222, 255, 288..//numbers measured, 1st # -from left, 2nd # -from top, 3rd # - horizontal size, 4th # - vertical sizewould mean that the PFD in the 777's VC is positioned 0 from the left, in other words all the way to the left of the screen. It is 222 down from the top of the screen. And then it's size is defined as 255x288.To replace the PFD with the GPS 500 you would simply replace the above line with the following...gauge00=fs9gps!gps_500, 0, 222, 255, 288Probably more than you wanted to know but I hope that helps somehow.Cheers,Jim

thanks for that, i think that the two sides of the cockpit are mirrored, i tried several options but i couldnt get the gps in the middle, replacing the original as you said was fine but the middle wont work, anyway thanks for your help, i will just have to keep flicking to the 2d panel!thanks,James

Ahhhh, darn! Well,I'm still learning some things here myself. I just installed a 767 that has a VC. It's panel is aliased to the default 777's panel. Then I loaded up the default 777 to see what it's VC looks like. I see what you are talking about in the middle, and also how it looks mirrored. Sooo anyway, I thought the 767's VC would have the gauges displayed in it according to the VC entries in the 777's panel.cfg file since it's aliased to the 777's panel. But nope, no such deal. This 767's VC just comes up as it's own bitmap and nothing else. No gauges at all that I could see anyway. Lol.Cheerio,Jim

It's not just the VC that is terrible in the default 777. The whole aircraft is pretty much belongs in the recycle bin, so best forget it and go fly something else.-Oyvind

I'm not a panel expert by any means, but I've tried to understand the panel.cfg file for several planes to get the most of the RealityXP gauges I've purchased. I believe that the default planes use some kind of bizarre mapping of the VC gauges as their relative postions in the cfg file (via those numbers) do not correlate well with their positions on the plane. This is not the case with most (all?) 3rd party planes, where editing the VC is a snap. Maybe someone at the panel editing forum could lend more info.Best,sg

lol, not a fan then? ahh well, i will use it until i can find a better one, im a bit hesitant about using third party planes as im not sure about the accuracy of their .air files..... James

Hi Gridley,Just wanted to say thanks for clueing us in about the non-standard VC mapping used in the .cfg by MS for the default planes. Interesting.Cheers,Jim

The default planes all have some of the least accurate flight dynamics around, regardless of any slogan that MS uses. Especially the jets tend to be overpowered, frictionless and unstable. Of course many addons also have bad .air-files, but the premier addons are a whole different world compared with the defaults. For a 777 I'd recommend the Meljet.- Oyvind

thanks for the advice, i'll give it a try,James
