777 question - no, NOT the upcoming one!

Just ran across this, and have no clue as to what on earth this is.

, and notice those two running zebras on the glareshield. At first I thought it was some sort of optical illusion, but they eventually turn off after about ten seconds into the link. Any hint is appreciated! sig.gif

Not an expert on the Triple Seven, but that is a PVD (para visual display), which I should imagine is optional equipment. It is tied to the localiser you have tuned in - whichever way the barber's pole is going, that's which way you need to steer to get back on the centreline. They were around in the old days a lot more, when autolands were a bit more iffy, I'm pretty sure the Trident had them. Al

Ahh, I figured something like that - but thanks for the info. Very interesting. Do you know if it has any other controls to it, or is it just the display that would eventually come on when tuned to a LOC? sig.gif

Think you have to turn it on, although like I say, I'm no expert. I'm pretty sure it lights up when you get within about ten degrees either side of the localiser. If you do a search for something like ''PVD on the 777'', I'm guessing you'll probably find some info about how it works exactly on places like PPRUNE. Al

To me they appear to be zebra lines, but there from the camera. Zebra lines are used to tell the camera person that there is too much light on a certain area and to change filters. This is just my opinion as I am in the TV production industry and work with cameras everyday, but I my be wrong!

You are indeed wrong, trust me, they are the PVD barber pole indicators from the localiser. Incidentally, I did recall correctly about it being on the Trident, scroll down on this link and you will see it listed: http://www.dmflights...Manual_MAIN.htmso if you get that panel and then nick the gauge, you could put it in an FS Triple Seven. Might even try that on mine for a laugh. Al
