PDCS freezing

Featured Replies

Hi all. I've noticed this a few times; it's not too much of a bother because, eventually, it unfreezes but I wanted to know what causes the "freeze-up". It usually happens on ground or somewhere in the climb, the PDCS goes to the GA page and it doesn't respond to any input nor the selector mode. Some time into the flight it comes to life again. Any ideas?

I've never seen this one before. Sounds like Go-Around mode is being triggered inadvertently. If you have a button assigned to the TOGA function, you might check that it's not giving uncommanded inputs.

Now that you mention GA mode, what is the correct way to set up the Flight Director for takeoff? I haven't found a TOGA button per se, so I click the GA icon for the FD to give me runway heading and nose up indications. Maybe this very same action is the one causing the PDCS freeze-up?

OK, it sounds like you're doing it to yourself then...the GA mode in the 'mouse isn't really takeoff and go-around, it's go-around only. There is a provision to program a button in FSUIPC for GA mode. While in GA mode, the PDCS is locked to the GA page. The correct way to set up for takeoff is to set the heading bug to runway hdg manually, and set a climb angle (SP-77) or engage a vertical mode after takeoff (SP-177).

OK, thanks! I'll try it the way you said.
