Kai Tak 13IGS Approach

Featured Replies

Hi again!Does anyone know how I can get the necessary Nav Aids into FS9 so I can fly the 13IGS approach into the old Hong Kong International (VHHX)? Also, is there any good freeware for FS9 to give the checkerboard on this approach?Regards,Paul Mallows...

PaulYou need only wait until Mark (Dark Moment) Beaumont reads this post. He's the best guy for all round Hong Kong advice. Or stick his name into Google and see if you can find his excellent web-site.Gavin

Dark Moment? Who he? Anyway, he can't read.LOL. Thanks, Gavin. Paul, get yerself over to my website, below. It's all there (mind you, the links all end up back here, ha ha). The latest work by Roger Mole comes with all you need. It's rumoured that the legendary Thomas Kwong will also give us a new Kai Tak for FS2004 in due course.http://www.swiremariners.com/cathayhk.htmlMark "Dark Moment" Beaumonthttp://www.swiremariners.com/newlogo.jpg

Thanks for that guys. I am downloading stuff as we speak ready for that 13IGS approach tonight. I have become addicted to it! Can't seem to get that last turn onto the runway right yet in the lumbering 747-200. Any tips?!Cheers,Paul Mallows...

You and the rest of the world, Paul! It's tough in a big heavy and was for real, too. There are some flying tips buried in my site if you look hard enough. Practice in something smaller first, though!Mark "Dark Moment" Beaumonthttp://www.swiremariners.com/newlogo.jpg

I used to have a video, .wmv I think, of a jumbo jet landing at Kai Tak (the real thing). It was pretty amazing, didn't look like she was gonna make it. Lost a lot of rubber too! I'm wondering if it is still available anywhere. Anyone have any info? ThanksDavid

You could try here: www.airsidetv.com though I may be wrong.Gavin

HiDont know about the video, but if you want to have a look at some awesome stills get on over to airliners.net, or maybe I'm preaching to the converted.Wycliffe

>Anyone have any>info?> >Thanks>DavidI think there is a good cross wind landing shown over at http://www.aviationexplorer.com/Scott M.

Interesting site, although with too much focus on crash bang wallop for me. There is a clip on the home page entitled "747 Tokyo Crosswind Landing" which is in fact a famous bit of footage of a Korean 747 getting it badly wrong on arrival at R13, Kai Tak, Hong Kong. That and others are linked from my own pages if you look for the link to Phil Parker, Kai Tak ATC.Mark "Dark Moment" Beaumonthttp://www.swiremariners.com/newlogo.jpg

downloaded Roger's Kai Tek--fantastic but kills my machine, hehe. But worth changing some sliders to use it. I find the ILS dosn't kick in until I'm almost on top of it. Anyone else notice this, or did I just do something wrong? rgds, billg

Mark,Where this link, I can't find it on your page...Regards/Mikkel

Thanks for all the info everyone. Even if I don't find what I want I'll probably find other good stuff. Now I go search. Thanks againDavid

Hmmmm ..... it was linked from my FS2000 Cathay Pacific page at www.swiremariners.com/flysma.html , but he seems to have shut his pages down. Pity. Have a look at my old pages anyway, there are other links of interest. The FS2002 one is www.swiremariners.com/cxkaitak.html . There's very little on my FS2004 page to date, linked below.Mark "Dark Moment" Beaumonthttp://www.swiremariners.com/newlogo.jpg
