FS9 Stability

Featured Replies

Hi guys,I would like to lunch a discussion (a healthy one ok?) :-)I'm using FS9 for 4 or 5 months now, despite I had it since it left. But I wait until most of the sceneries add-on and planes were ready to run on it.I found plenty issues to let me continue with it, however I'm finding it more unstable, since it's crashing constantly. It's rather strange, since sometimes it crash after 30 minutes other times after 12 hours or more being flying... And it happens no matter aircraft I'm using. CaptainSim, PMDG, PSS or whatever. And in completly different places so I doesn't seem to be something relating with sceneries. Is this happening with me or with most of you? I had problems with FS2002, but didn't compare with this! Some comments to feel that I'm not alone.Cheers guys,Miguel

Miguel,I once had this problem with FS2K, turned out it had nothing to do with the program, but with my system. I was running too hot on my video card and the processor was also running too warm. I fixed the heat problem with a new case and additonal cooling. I was told that when a graphic intensive program like MSFS is running on you system, it generates tremendous demands on all of your system compenents. If any of them overheat, you will get the dreaded crash to desktop. Are you curenntly running anything overclocked? Have to checked your system for overheating? Does this CTD, occur with any other program like Quake or Doom? And on your question, I too run the PMDG737 with FS9 and have never had a crash. Make sure you are running all the latest video drivers for you card and install Direct X9.b. I am also running with Windows XP Pro, which is also very stable.Hope this helps with your investigation. Good LuckBob JohnsonDenver, CO

The only time I had constant crashing senarios is when my video card was about to die. It all started with a heating issue then turned into a melt down. I have heard of many fixes from changing the temperature restrictions to adding more fans. The thing to remember is that with any graphic and modeling intense game that requires a lot of processing power, there is going to be a tremendous amount of heat generated. Granted, I am not computer expert, but I have had plenty of computer experiences that I have learned from. With the computer I have now I have plenty of power, a good card, and good cooling. The computer game you run has to jive with all the hardware you have. If your hardware is not jiving, the game is going to have problems. When I would find major problems I would hunt and peck and waste my time, when I should have asked an expert to start with. I have a great relationship with my local computer tech guy and chat with them whenever there is a problem. Because most likely it is with my system and not the game. All in all, I have had a great experience with FS9 and many other game titles since I have upgraded my system. Those that don't upgrade their system every so often are only asking for trouble in the long run. I know it can be expensive, but this is an expensive hobby. To get the most out of your game titles you have to invest. Because that is what the game developers are counting on you doing. Since the developers are going to use the newest in hardware technology, they are expecting you (the consumer) to go out and upgrade to run their game.

Hi Miguel,I think I am having the same problem as you do with Fs9. Read my Avsim Post by Searching "Author" and enter in my UN "kosmo007". I just posted a letter today re this subject.I wonder if you ever fixed the prblem? I have tried extra fans to cool my case which is really not very hot ever....cooling isn't the problem, at least in my case. I have one fan blowing right direct on the video card and it stays very cool.Let me know if you find a fix. kosmo007
