January 29, 200422 yr If Microsoft were to make FS in surround sound mode and they made the center channel only voice (pilot/atc) and the end user had a sound card that allowed you to plug in headphones to the center channel were the user would be able to listen to the radio in the headset alone and have the speakers play all the other sound, could that work?
January 29, 200422 yr On most (if not all) 5.1 soundcards, the center and subwoofer are on the same jack, so that won't work. If they piped the ATC to the reach channel it just might work.
January 29, 200422 yr Your right but after reading what you said and playing around with my sound card settings and the software it comes with found this. Before I go on let me just say it might be only my set up and not with all. I have digital surround speakers and the soundcard with its supporting software allows me to have both digital and analog outputs together. So I plug my speakers (just one jack for all 4 and sub woofer) into the digial output on the sound card and then I plug a cheap set of headphones into the Center channel. When I run the test of the speakers I hear all speakers in the correct speaker and I hear in my left ear of the headphones center and the right ear subwoofer. So all the user would need would be a mono to stereo jack to plug into his headphones and the woofer wouldnt be heard in the headset. It would be heard if the user had digital speakers or if the user split the left and right signals with phono jacks or something like that. Sounds like alot of work huh? What is the reach channel?
January 29, 200422 yr Nathan,Just do what I do.. use the onboard soundcard on your motherboard for the headset/mic to use with RW and the speakers into your audigy. Cheers,John TavendaleTextures by Tavers - https://www.facebook.com/texturesbytavers
January 29, 200422 yr John, I have SB live 5.1. When i installed it I disabled the onboard audio. Are you saying all i would have to do is enable onboard audio and keep SB live enabled also. Will this work with both sounds enabled? Thanks, Bob McDuff
January 29, 200422 yr Hi Bob,Yes, works fine. You can run both without issue. You just setup RW or whatever program you wish to use your headset with to use the onboard sound, use the soundcard with speakers as per normal. :) Cheers,John TavendaleTextures by Tavers - https://www.facebook.com/texturesbytavers
January 29, 200422 yr Yeah that should work fine for Roger wilco but what I would like to see is the default atc/atis/pilots voice in FS be seperate from all the other sounds so that you could create an a/c environment with your speakers and headset. Great advice.
