January 30, 200422 yr I'll admit that I don't get to play Flight Sim as much as most people do, so I may be a bit lacking in some of the finer points... but one thing that I've noticed and it happens occasionally is that when I have to go missed and ATC vectors me around the FS default (non-published) procedure, sometimes I'm just forgotten about and fly off into the distant expanse. This happened last night as I was coming into KORD in a POSKY American 757. I didn't descend quite fast enough and had to go around. Well, 66nm after heading into the opposite direction I finally requested a different runway, at which point I was courteously given my return vectors. This happen to anyone else any time? Could it be a problem with having Ultimate Traffic installed, is it an FS thing, or is it (most likely answer) operator error? Thanks,Ken
January 30, 200422 yr The only time I've ever been "forgotten about" is when I fail to respond to an ATC query - maybe you were supposed to contact center and didn't so the IFR got cancelled? Should have nothing to do with UT.Best,sg [email protected] | 32gb RAM | EVGA GTX1080 8gb | Mostly P3Dv5 (also IL2:BoX, DCS, XP11)
January 30, 200422 yr Nope, I made all of my calls. In fact, once I tried to turn back toward the airport, and ATC yelled at me to resume the previous course that they gave me. I had been handed off to, er... I believe it was South Bend approach, and it was with them that I elected to request runway 27R instead of 27L. After I did that, I received my 70 nm vectors back to the airport.Wonder if I need to reinstall... ?Ken
January 30, 200422 yr Don't bother reinstalling! I also have had cases where I've been taken off of the flight plan course, vectored for an approach setup, and then never given another vector to the airport. Seems to happen after a handoff to a different agency/frequency. Seems that the ATC people don't cross communicate. BTW, I don't have Ultimate Traffic so that is not a factor; I think it is just a coding lapse within the sim.Larry S.
January 31, 200422 yr FS Nav f'plan exported to FSplanner - EGHH to LEMG. Flying the default 737 first w'point was Ortac the down to Jersey. ATC turned me onto 230 degrees , passed me onto Brest Centre then nothing. I tried turning to Ortac and was turned back to the original heading. After an hour of flying out over the Atlantic I shut down (737 won't reach S. America)LOL!Flyerian
January 31, 200422 yr Sometimes, when ATC makes you go around it does something like that. What I really hate from FS ATC is when they make you do a whole approach, tune the ILS, start descent and when Approach tells you to contact tower, and you are less than a minute from landing, tower instructs you to go downwind. GRRRRR.Normally if there isn't another plane on the runway I ignore tower and just land.Microsoft forgot that ATC contact each other before controlling traffic.Other than there are airports with 6 or even 8 runways, all of them with ILS and FS makes all departures and landings in just one of them, making you wait when taking off and making you go around when landing. That is two good reasons I am starting to love VATSIM, those stupid things never happen.
January 31, 200422 yr Yeah...it's a little error I guess within the sim :) I had ATC forget about me after they started me on an approach to Charles De Gaul (Paris), from Heathrow. I was heading past the airport, descending as instructed, holding course, and was probably half way across Poland before I told them (mentally of course)to stuff-it!! Not a word from them...I tried changing altitudes; no problem, changing course; told to return to my previous heading. They just didn't want to have me land anywhere near France I guess ;)

January 31, 200422 yr Only on VATSIM...One time I was approaching Schiphol on a standard 06 arrival from the east. Good thing I know my procedures there as ATC forgot about me from about 50nm out until I was on final (when I called THEM for clearance) :)
January 31, 200422 yr I've had this problem with the vectors after missed approach. Once into San Juan, I was given vectors that took me to a 70NM final. Same thing happened on approach this time to KBOS ........comming in from the South, the active being the 22s, I was vectored downwind for 65NM before finally being told to turn base and final.Something I do notice however, is that this problem seems to crop up when you are using a different AFCAD for the airport. I tested that theory, and it seems to be correct...but I won't swear on it. If you're having the problem, try a different AFCAD for the airport, or try going back to the stock FS9 AFCAD.
January 31, 200422 yr It's happened to me. Same story, missed approach (non-pub'd), vectored out toward mars. Had to ask for a new runway. Wasn't running UT, though. Just happened once. I've gone missed a few times (didn't descend fast enough or AI blocking my view of the runway:-eek .. so much for ATC maintaining separation.

Stock airport (KATL), MS AI, default B747. Definitely a software issue. :-sae
