Reality xp 530 -VERY STRANGE PROBLEM- HELP

Featured Replies

Hello,I have a strange and recurring problem with my Reality XP 530 GPS. I have the most current version and the most current Meridian also. I had installed panels with the 530 in a few A/C also.About a month ago, when all were working fine, a strange thing happened. The 530 GPS seemed to be working fine but the keystroke response time (the time from a key depression to its action) went up to about 6-10 seconds ( any keypress including a rescale). All other FS9, aircraft and even the 530 display funcions are working fine. As of now, I had to replace all of my GPS's with the FS9 GPS until a solution is found (the Meridian GPS is now useless). The FSUIPC is a registered and current version. The Garmin simulator works fine. All other keystrokes in a given A/C like the Meridian work fine. Only the Reality XP 530 seems affected. Also, if I RIGHT CLICK a non response point on the display and then click a 530 key, the response to that keystroke is immediate. Then - back to the 6-10 second delay!I posted to the Reality forum but no response!Any thoughts on the problem from the community would be appreciated. Thanks,Ron [email protected]

Hi, did you edit your FS2004 shortcut in any way (run in high priority), or do you have HT enabled?

Thanks for the response-I once tried the High Priority thing but that is GONE! The shortcut is the standard link to the FS9 exeSorry but I don't know what HT is???Ron Sagel

Hi Ron,HT = HyperThreading. It is part of the architecture of newer Intel processors(I believe the AMD equivalent is HyperTransport). It takes up about 5 percent of the die space on your CPU that allows it to act as if it were 2 CPU's instead of one! Sort of, and only when enabled of course. I think most all motherboards that are made to allow and take advantage of the newer Hyperthreading Intel processors will have an option in your BIOS that allows you turn turn Hyperthreading on or off. My motherboard has the option anyway. I turn it off because the 16-bit Garmin Trainer app does not get along with having HT enabled. More specifically, I believe this to be due to the 16-bit subsystem of WinXP(ntvdm.exe) not getting along with having HT enabled.Another thing you might check is to make sure that your GARMINWT.INI file(C:WINDOWSGARMINWT.INI) has not become corrupted. There should be a backup of the orginal found in C:RealityXP. Open up the one in your WINDOWS folder and see if it looks normal. If it the contents looks all messed up or has a bunch of funky looking characters then it has becaome corrupted and you should replace it with the one found in your RealityXP folder.Of course neither of these might be your problem! But I hope the explanation of HT helps anyway.Jim

Thanks fpr trying to help -Neither seems to be the problem.I even went backwards with my Dell Dimension 8200 BIOS - reverted back to A07 - 2 yeaars old. I still have the same problem so I removed the 530 from all of my planes. I'm sorry to see it go because I really like it a lot. Thanks anyway and happy sim flying!Ron Sagel

"All other keystrokes in a given A/C like the Meridian work fine. Only the Reality XP 530 seems affected"Ron, do you mean with the Meridian you don't have this problem but only with aircrafts you add the 530XP to? do you run the latest v2.1 as well as the latest service module?Besides, all the Reality XP products DO NOT use FSUIPC. What about if you deactivate it? (meaning temporarily move the FSUIPC.DLL file to another folder to test). Also, when this occurs, what aircraft is this exhibited with, and what method have you chosen to configure the 530XP to these aircrafts? (panel edit, ezconfig...)

(panel edit, ezconfig...)1. I have the problem with ALL of the A/C that the Reality XP 530 is in2. Latest 2.1 and service modules are installed3. I tried to remove FSUIPC - same result - 530 does not respond to keystrokes in realtime4. Appears in ALL A/c - Meridian by First Flite, a Beech Baron that I used ezconfig to install gps and an ARCHER (DF) where I used a Reality downloaded panel as a test.I have the problem in ALL attempts to use the 530.

And when you mean "keystroke", you actually mean "a keyboard shortcut" OR "pressing a bezel key with the mouse" ?It looks like it really is a system specific problem only, not a particular flaw in the Reality XP Flight Line 530XP Garmin (or I guess the Reality XP forum would be inundated with messsages about this issue). As always when it is system specific, I guess you would have better support from Realiy XP than Avsim General discussion forum! it is included in the product too:http://www.reality-xp.com/support/Hope this helps!
