Changing aircraft performance

Featured Replies

Can someone tell me how to change the aircraft performance parameters. I want to adapt an aircraft(Skyraider from CFS2/FS2002) to take off from a(modern) aircraft carrier. As things stand at the moment it's a very risky affair. The aircraft can just about reach flying speed after using the entire deck length.9 times out of 10 we sink slowly towards the water after falling off the carriers bows at about 100kts.I've tried all possible combinations of flap settings from clean to full, gear up the second we pass the bows and so on- makes no difference.According to the original aircraft .cfg the flaps up stall is 80kts and fullflap stall is 54kts.If this is so we should be able to get off easily - but it isn't happening, most times you get an early bath.I think the performance figures for this model were possibly set up with the AH-1 model operating from land fields in Vietnam with a heavy armaments load in mind.So ,is it possible to alter the.cfg in such a way as to reduce thje speed required to get airborne? The aircraft in question is the AH-1H by Ed Wilson( file is gzra1hv1.zip in the file library)MTIADave

bump!!

Try this..in ac cfg under [flight tuning] there is an entry Parasite_Drag_Scalar try reducing this little by little until you get the performance you want..JamesJ

Many thanks for the reply James.Unfortunately that made a minimal difference. However ,thanks to Doug Dawson in cCanada I have found a way - the most realistic alteration was to alter the Elevator effectiveness in the aircraft.cfg. By increasing this I was able to achieve a good take off within the limits of the angled flight deck> Now I can fly off without getting wet.Dave

Hello Dave, look at the .cfg tutorial atHerve's sitehttp://perso.wanadoo.fr/hsors/FS_Soft/You want to change the maximum lift coefficient, either by a fudge factor in .cfg or actually altering the lift coef table in .air using a good editor also available there. If still stuck search the Decode Forum which is linked from them.Ian

Add a few more horses for a quicker acceleration.

Thanks to all for the various suggestions ,but as I said above I've done it by editing the Elevator_Effectiveness part of the aircraft.cfg file- doesn't seem to have any bad effects but allows me to get off the deck nicely at about 85kts."Add a few more horses for a quicker acceleration" Thought about JATO bottles !!Dave
