I can't land a helicopter!

Featured Replies

I've got a whole lot of frustration with helicopters. I've been flying them since they came out in FS. Although I primarily fly conventional aircraft, I really want to learn how to land a helicopter properly. Do most of you who are successful "hover" to a landing or do you go straight in with speed and land it as though it were a GA aircraft? Is there a tutorial on this technique somewhere, and which helicopter provides you with the most satisfaction (take off, flying, and landing)?So....before I crash and burn again, I thought I'd ask the forum for some feedback. Stan

Hi Stan, first of all, you could check the rotorhead forum...But to give you the "shortcut", I recommend you head over to hovercontrol.com, there are some training videos which you can reenact. Also, I recommend you to search for the helicopter hud in the avsim library, as it can help you learn to hover.Hope that helps,-Daniel

Hi Stan,You should go over to www.hovercontrol.com They have some great tutorials and tips. The way you have your controllers, sensitivities and realism set up has a lot to do with being able to hover in the MSFS world.JohnBoeing 727/737 Mechanic

Thanks everyone,I just registered over at hovercontrol. Hopefully, I'll get my email soon so that I can use the site. Stan

Stan,it shouldn't take long before you'll be able to go online or download from HC. I've been flying the helos in MSFS exclusively for the last year. Learning to land without crashing was my first hurdle, and I did start by landing with a little forward momentum as if I were in a GA plane. I'm currently practicing my hover and, for me at least, it's a tough road. But I'm getting there. You won't find any better help for flying the helos than you'll get over at HC. Another good site with downloadable lessons with accompanying videos is Hoversafe. It's been around longer than HC but does not offer as varied subjects as Hovercontrol.I'll look forward to seeing you over at HC. Be sure to get the HC scenery. Its current base is located at Hood River, Oregon (4S2).-Lindy :-rotor:-wave
