Your computer has run out of memory, FS will now exit...

Hello,My config is : P2 2.4; 1 gigabyte ram, Video GF4 TI4600 with 2 monitors liked, XP PRO SP1, Virtual Memory or Paging file 4 Gbytes, FS9.After adding some mesh and sceneries and flying more than 1 hour I have an error popup box"your computer has run out of memory, Flight Simulator will now exit. You may not have enough free space on your hard drive. Run disk cleanup to free some space and then try running Flight Simulator again"How is this possible with that much RAM and Paging file??Any recommendations? Thanks in advance

It's likely to be a result of a bug in one of your new scenery files. Try removing the new ones & re-add them, one at a time, testing for a while after each install to try & replicate the problem.LPXO

Try removing the new ones & re-add them, one at>a time, testing for a while after each install to try &>replicate the problem. To be more precise its a well-known bug in FS2004 with Landclass files. It occurs if a Landclass-File resides in a scenery folder which also has a texture folder beneath it. This causes FS2004 to start reloading all default textures again and again filling up the complete memory and the swapfile. When all memory is filled up FS2004 will crash. You need to identifly all Landclass-files. These are .BGL-Files which usually carry a "LC" in their filename. All those landclass files need to be placed in FS2004SCENERYBASESCENERY. You will notice that there is not TEXTURE folder in this path - which makes this the right place for the Landclass files.>LPXOYours,Martin Georg/EDDFVACC-SAG PR & Events Coordinator *** mailto:[email protected]http://vatsim.pilotmedia.fi/statusindicato...r=SAG01&a=a.jpg

Where did you place the Landclass files? That will cause the problem you are having. Some designers ( My self) place a *_LC in the bgl name. Moove these to the sceneryBASEscenery folder. If they are any place else, It will cause a memory leak, which sounds like what you have.Joe W.

You've received good answers regarding this error, but I want to stress it is not ONLY related to landclass. From time to time, a bgl can simply be either bad, or something COF doesn't like. Even if the bgl worked great in FS2002, COF may balk at accepting it.Luckily, it is somewhat easy to trace where the bgl is, and whether it's related to the landclass issue or something else.If you are getting this error at startup, it is being triggered by the reindexing MSFS does whenever it detects new scenery. Within your scenery folders, you'll see several dozen files called "scenery.dat". These are the indexes... If you get the Out of Memory error, you can simply do a find against the COF folder and subfolders for all files named "scenery.dat".... Once the O/S finishes searching, sort them in date order. The most recent one will reside where the "bad" scenery or incorrectly installed scenery is..... It is as MSFS builds that file that the startup Out of Memory errors can happen....Hope this helps!Regards,John

Hello John,In Fact I have this problem after more than 1 hour "flying" in the same US State. Why after 1 hour only? May be due to the 1 GigByte Ram available on my PC . I will do what your suggest may be it will help me to find the problem. Thanks

More likely it is a landclass problem then, if you've installed any that is... I have only 384 megs of memory, and have never run out, and some of my COF sessions when I am designing aircraft can last 14-15 hours....Sorting the scenery.dat files may still point you to the problem if it is scenery related... If not, you may also want to try flying with different aircraft to see if the problem is the same...
