727 in FS9

Featured Replies

Hi there, yesterday I successfully merged the FFX 727-200 with Richard Probst's 727 panel and Charles Fox' 727 .upgraded (v2) .air file. After making some suggested corrections, everything works just fine (and rivals payware in my opinion!) ... with one exception: the .air file behaves a bit strangely.I use the aicraft.cfg for 174k max gross weight. Now when I takeoff with, say, 40% fuel and climb to an alt of approx. 10.000 feet (just for testing), I notice that the plane seems to climb too fast. But the interesting thing is that at full throttle during level flight I easily and rapidly exceed the maximum speed of a little short of 400kts! Even when I set the engines to idle or at 10-20% N1 I have a hard time not to exceed that speed and utimalely overspeed and overstress the plane. My question is: Is that normal? Maybe I am missing something here. I am aware that the .air file is in no way optimized for FS9 and specifically designed for FS2002, so there almost certainly is a problem here concerning compatibility. So: Is there a) a fix/patch for the .air file or :( an easy way to tweak some settings to set it right? Thanks for listening, celticmatirx

No, I know this isn't normal. I've got a few hours in a 727 and it takes a lot more than 10% of N1 to mainatain cruise speed. Can't remember my EPR values right off the cuff, but you'll definately need to modify or grab another .air file.good luck

I had the same problem with Charles' airfile. I hope there is an FS9 update in the works, but for now I'm using Mike Stone's airfile with the ffx model and Richard's panel. It took some tweaking but with a little help it's working fine.BlairCYOW

Hello All,Well, No 10% N1 isn't even close. It's been a few years since I left seated a '27', and the % would depend upon the engines used on any particular model. Memory serves me correctly there were 3 different engines used in the series. The majority of '27's I flew were the 100 cargo models, but had uprated engines for the grass and gravel modifications which had been made. Actually it was a complete kit if you were going to use the 727 to service third world countries and would not always have use of a hardned runway. So the engines on the 727-100's I flew most likely were the JTS D-17's which were rated at 48,000 pounds of thrust each, so doing the numbers in my head really quick you would probably have something around 62-68% N1 at cruise, assuming you were using 0.72 mach as your cruise figure. The '27' would go much faster, but gobbeled fuel at an alarming rate much past 0.75.As for a 727 model, I personally think the Probst panel is supurb, although not as nice as Captain Sims. And, the Captain Sim is the best visual and flight model I have yet seen. I only have a wee bit of problems with the .air file and that is on the attitude of the aircraft on approach, and that was easialy fixed with a small modification to the .cfg file. Hope this has been some help and my memory isn't too awful bad.Clayton T. Dopke (Clay)Major, USAF (retired)"Drac"

Thanks guys!yes, I somewhat knew right from the start that the .air file sort of misbehaves in FS9. P&W could have made a lot of money with those wunder-engines ;-)Rockcliffe: In what way did you modify the aicraft.cfg so that Mike Stone's .ir file works acceptably in FS9?Greetings,celticmatrix
