  1. Thanks a lot, EngineRoom, for the info regarding airline callsigns! Interesting to see how this thread developed. I personally would like to thank the freeware authors for the countless hours they invested in making such fine ai aircraft. It is much appreciated.However, I could not have said it better than RobertK. Time is so valuable, and I think it would benefit us all, legal problems and quarrels aside, if efforts in this direction -- the creation of a high-quality ai package, freeware or payware -- could be intensified. The demand surely exists. Maybe the infamous Adobe Traffic Pack was the attempt of one individual to accomplish just that. I just give him the benefit of the doubt right now. So, what am I going to do about it? I'd like to honour the freeware author's rights. If I uninstalled the pack and re-installed all AIA, FsPainter and EvolveAI aircraft sepearately, would I be good to go? Intersting moral question on the "consumer" side...
  2. I, as a longtime lurker, also second mike's opinion. The Traffic Pack is superb in many ways.I have a P4 2.4 w/ a GF6600, and frames are good. Traffic is at 20%, but I decompiled the traffic.bgl and discovered that most of the flight plans (around 80%) are set to 1% so this traffic will show up anyway.My remedy for the BAe146 issue is the deletion of the respective flights :-). I noticed that the Lufthansa 146s seem to take off correctly, which is all that matters as far as I am concerned so no need to take action here.Anyway, I'd like to know how I should go about fixing the airline callsign issue in the aircraft.cfgs... I realized that even after installing EditVoicepack there are still several callsigns which remain unidentified.
  3. German Airports 1, 3 and 4 have been thoroughly updated for FS9 (Version 3.2). GAP2 is taking some time to update; a new release is scheduled for end of this year.In the meantime, as far as GAP2 is concerned, you could use the last version for FS2002 (2.1) and apply the rudimentary patch (GA_FREE_PATCH.exe) which makes it compatible w/ FS, but nothing more. The scenery itself is not enhanced in any way, but GAP 1,3, and 4 feature significant improvements and updates for the airports themselves.Hope this helps.

  6. Brian-yes every sound, including trim sounds (quite loud!) and the altimeter vibrator. The respective .wav files reside in the folder fsfsconv/panel.b727 along w/ the gauge file.
  7. Just completed a flight w/ Richard's new (improved) panel. Installed it as per his instructions (folder fsfsconv/panel.b727) after deleting all instances of the old one which did not work so well for me (hey, it was not designed for FS9 in the first place).Kept Ericks .air file (B727200_VL.air). Everything seemed to work flawlessly, the AP worked, gauges and sounds too. Only odd thing I noticed is the radar altimeter which exhibited jerky motion, but I am not too familiar with it.At least I could land the bird in KDEN which is a good sign :)Charles' .air file might be good (or even better) but that means tweaking aircaft.cfg to incorporate Ericks model which is too much hassle for me at the moment.Anyway, we live in a golden 727 age :) ... so much good stuff already and one big package to come :)

  10. This is a question I once posted somewhere else, but maybe you guys can help. Would like to know how the AP is normally (and realistically) used on the 727.My question is as follows: As far as I know the autopilot in the 727 is a pretty basic 2-axis autopilot. There are two separate "engage" switches for elevator and ailerons. Now, when I disengage the elevator AP in the CS (Captain Sim) 727 but keep the aileron control engaged (in order to keep a certain heading but control altitude manually) I notice that the elevator axis stays engaged, because there is elev trim movement by the autopilot which tires to level off the plane. This is a bit surprising since I switched the elevator AP to "disengaged". Is this the correct behaviour? Or am I missing something here? Maybe thats not exactly the way the 727 is flown and I should use the pitch control on the AP to make altitude adjustments, but I really like to have just one axis (lateral) engaged while controlling altitude. Hope this makes sense.
  11. IMHO,1) Richard Probst's 727 panel, available here in the library. Wonderful if you like to (hand-)fly the old iron. Also works w/ FS9 flawlessly.2) Eric Marciano's A320 panel, available on his website. Top notch, even the MCDU is modeled to some extent.Some others I have tried, but they dont come close to those two. However, I havent tried each and every one of them :-)Greetings,celticmatrix
  12. Hi all,sometime in the future I'd like to upgrade my vid card, currently aGF4200 64mb. Very decent card, as a matter of fact I am quite happy with it.Now, very often in FS2004 I witness the "texture loading effect": Stutters, sometimes longer than a few seconds, where textures are being re-loaded, even constantly when I pan around my aircraft in a heavily textured environment such as the freeware KBOS scenery for FS2004.My question is: Does it help to increase vid mem on the card, so that loading textures into memory does not occur that often, or is FS2004 coded in a way that it is more dependent on the processor/ram part?Thanks for hints,celticmatrix

  14. One question: I have the JetLine2 (like you, Volker). I also usually navigate using victor airways. And I understand airways and intersections are created by either intesecting VORs and/or defined by DME distances.One thing would be neat though: To use two vor radios and two OBS'es simultaneously, in order to dial in the radial of an upcoming second VOR in the flightplan so that I can seamlessly switch between two VORs (without having to use HDG as a temporary aid). Is that possible with the JL2 EFIS? I oly found the OBS for VOR1, not VOR2...I am no expert and hope to have made myself clear on this.... any comments?
  15. The SF.260 hands-down. Especially in its newest version for FS9, it is an outstanding aircraft, handsome, smooth and powerful (170kts cruise). Equally excellent for cross-country and IFR as well as some hair-raising manoeuvers.It is the only plane I have (my other payware GA being the Cessna 421) which I constantly fly in VC mode because the gauges are so ultra-sharp. It is even more stable than before and a dream to fly, even when you're not doing aerobatics. For some exercises I take the freeware RealAir C172 which is also superb.just my 0.02$,celticmatrix
  16. Yep, its a very nice plane. Got it this week, as I started to like the 727, and usually switch between the CaptainSim 727 and my freeware custom-merged 727. The CaptainSim 727 has been improved lately and is now at Version 1.5.Please note two things though: 1. The gauges in 2D can be a bit small (although there is an optional digital readout available for the most important gauges), so make sure you run at least a 1280 resolution and upwards. You have nearly the same spec as me (I own a P4 2.4 and slightly less ram), and it is running absolutely fabulous at a higher resolution. 2. Prior to actually getting it I recommend you download an excellent CS727 tutorial available here at avsim: cs27tutorialfs9.zip. It will acquaint you with most of the systems and some peculiarities of the CaptainSim 727.Hope this helps,celticmatrix
  17. Hi Chris,okay, now I've taken a shot w/ the default fs2004 water textures... and the colors "blend" into each other much nicer! (Although there is still significant blurring... see screenshot). I assume that FS9 uses those blurred textures in the distance in both cases (w/ or w/o the texture enhancement), and they obviously don't get replaced by the enhancement.One thing to note: I did not enable "extended terrain textures" becuase I had some framerate problems. My take is that it eventually should be o.k. if I set extended textures to "on". Will try when I fire up FS9 again.
  18. Hi all,yesterday I encountered the following while flying over KBOS. See attached screenshot.I am using a water textures enhancement (waterzone.zip, by Lynn and Bill Lyons and Daniel Buechter) which produces good results so far, but I havent been able to pinpoint the problem with those blurry textures in the distance as seen in the screenshot.Do I need to adjust my visibility settings? I cant seem to set it <60mi in the weather options dialog.Ah, before I forget it, my rig: P4 2.4, 512mb ram, GF4 4200 64MB.Thanks,celticmatrix

  20. Hi there,yesterday I successfully merged the FFX 727-200 with Richard Probst's 727 panel and Charles Fox' 727 .upgraded (v2) .air file. After making some suggested corrections, everything works just fine (and rivals payware in my opinion!) ... with one exception: the .air file behaves a bit strangely.I use the aicraft.cfg for 174k max gross weight. Now when I takeoff with, say, 40% fuel and climb to an alt of approx. 10.000 feet (just for testing), I notice that the plane seems to climb too fast.But the interesting thing is that at full throttle during level flight I easily and rapidly exceed the maximum speed of a little short of 400kts! Even when I set the engines to idle or at 10-20% N1 I have a hard time not to exceed that speed and utimalely overspeed and overstress the plane.My question is: Is that normal? Maybe I am missing something here. I am aware that the .air file is in no way optimized for FS9 and specifically designed for FS2002, so there almost certainly is a problem here concerning compatibility.So: Is there a) a fix/patch for the .air file or :( an easy way to tweak some settings to set it right?Thanks for listening,celticmatirx
