February 2, 200422 yr I am having to fit another Hard Disk because of the amount of FS files. My HD at the moment is fat32 due to the fact that I need dual boot because my CH stick is the old analog fighterstick which can't be programmed with XP, and I have to boot into a small install of Win98 to do it. The question is, being that the new drive is a different physical drive rather than a partition of the primary, can I format it under NTFS, then having the primary as Fat32 and the new one as NTFS. Thanks for any helpAnthony
February 2, 200422 yr Yes, you can format the new one as NTFS, I have two NTFS drives and one FAT32 drive on my system and everything works great!Good Luck!Philip Olsonhttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/supporter.jpg
February 2, 200422 yr You can format it NTFS, but be careful with drive letter assignments. Since the Win98 system can't see the NTFS partition, it won't assign a drive letter to it. If the NTFS is set as a primary partition, it would normally be assigned as drive letter D: (primary partition on second physical hard drive). Of course, if your first physical drive is partitioned with only a primary partition (C: ) then this is a "don't care".scott s..

At the moment I have the drive config of C: bootD: fss2204E: This has a small win98se partition of 2gig just J/stick program plus a couple of other things.I: generalBy what you say then, partition E will show if I leave the above as fat32 as they are now on the primary drive, and use the new drive with ntfs, things will be the same and I can re-assign the first partition on the new drive to something other than D: under XP.I understand what you are saying about the assignments under the dos days, for example where your second partition (D)on the primary would move to E afer an extra drive was fitted. So am I thinking correct about re-assigning the letters for the new physical drive partitions I create under XP. I just want to add more space and thought I would format in NTFS for the new drive, and leave the primary as it is.Sorry to go onAnthtony....
