February 4, 200422 yr Hi all,I just purchased a brand new and expensive Asus Radeon 9800XT 256DDRgraphic card.I'm very disapointed with its Anti Aliasing performance. It is set to 6X, and yet the planes do not appear very nicely.I would like to know the opinion of GeForce FX 5950 Ultra users.I'm thinking of bringing the card back and return to nVidiato whom I've always been faithfull. On another note, I installed the latest Catalyst 4.1 drivers. Is there any chance that re-installing fs9 and fs2002 would givebetter result? I dont think so, but I was thinking maybeupon install MSFS looks for the drivers installed. If so, it kept my nVidia drivers, depsite the fact in the Displaysetting I can see the Radeon 9800XT.Regards.
February 4, 200422 yr Make sure you've correctly set up your ATI control Panel. Uncheck the application preference boxes and set AA & AF. You shouldn't have any problems with 6xAA & 16xAF. Make sure you got rid of all the Nvidia drivers. Use a program like drivercleaner. www.driverheaven.net . Also, make sure the aircraft you're using have mipmapped textures. There's a lot of textures being posted in the library now without mips. Needless to say, they look like garbage if you're using an ATI card. Can't image what they look like on an Nvidia Card? Flightsim wasn't meant to be run with nonmipped textures. All flightsims are based on mipmapped textures. All of them. It's real easy to add mipmaps back with the DXTBmp.
February 4, 200422 yr Thanks for the wise tips guys.I downloaded the DriverCleaner.I had already set the AA and AS manually, no effect.I also experience an FSP drops, which make me think ofa kind of ghost-driver somewhere...
February 4, 200422 yr I also bought a Radeon 9800Pro and had some display problems. In the end I rebuilt the system from scratch and things seemto work much better. There is a warning however in the catalystreadme filequoteData corruption may occur if the Large System Cache feature isenabled in Windows XP.For complete details see; http://www.ati.com/support/infobase/4217.htmlThis symptom does not occur on all systems. The key ingredients thatlead to this symptom may include:- System Memory greater than 512 Meg. (1 gigabyte of RAM is common)- Large NTFS disk volumes. And multiple large volumes. (60-100 gigabyte hard drives possibly in RAID arrays)- AGP graphics with large AGP resource requirements (AGP aperturegreater than default) - Large file transfersfiles about having the card/system having problems if your windowsswap file is any larger than 520MbunquoteAs regards the antialias settings on the Catalyst all I get on theControl Panel is a slider for performance that when moved changesthe antialias and filtering accordingly. This is contrary to themanual which shows individual sliders for each option.and filtering automatically. Regards
February 4, 200422 yr If your disappointed with the Radeon 9800XT, then you haven't got it set up right.......Everytime I take off theres always some new visual feast to look at with this fine card...Steve brown
February 4, 200422 yr JoaquinOpen the ATI control panel, then the 3D tab, check the Use Custom Settings box, then click on Custom button. This should bring up the settings you are missing.David
