Lago Terramesh vs Freeware SRTM Mesh

Featured Replies

Upgraded recently to F9 and just wanted to knowwhich of the 2 types of mesh would be the mostaccurate. Thanks in advance.

Since you're interested in Lago's mesh I must assume you're mostly flying around Europe. So, Lago's would set ya back around 80USD to cover the hilly parts only -- They ignore the flatter bits. Freeware SRTM covers various pieces but lack adequate support for any issues that might arise such as unexpected holes or 50,000 foot spires caused by anomalies in the SRTM raw data. The best solution -- IMHO -- is FSGenesis' European 76.4 meter mesh. They have covered Europe completely and it only costs 9.95USD for the whole thing. FSG is also using the SRTM data so the visual appearance is the same. However, whenever an anomaly is reported, it gets fixed immediately (usually within a couple days)Check FSG out over at http://portal.fsgenesis.net/ You can even test drive before you buy. The UK section is free.-------------------Racartronit means something, but I just can't remember what

Actually the post above does not reflect the real facts of terrain mesh and does not gratify any freeware authors which have worked hard to produce good quality terrain for free. there are tons of freeware terrains available here at avsim - which are as good any other and do not cost a penny - simply search for Pietro Mauri - Nanucq Faitmain - Raimondo Taburet - just few to mention - - will reveal the true - commercial advertisment is not a fear and honest way to answer skywreck question!luce

Thank you for your replies guys....I didn't mean to start any controversy. let me expand a little bit.I have recently upgraded to Fs2004 and have well over450 entries on my scenery.cfg. When I was using FS2002I was using mainly freeware mesh packages, except forthe UK mesh which was payware.Since I am striving this time to achieve as real as possibleTerrain worldwide, I was just wondering which packageseither freeware/payware are considered the best by theSim community, since all the technical info on the mesh iswell beyond my understanding.I have seen and used freeware packages by the authorsmentioned in earlier post in FS2002 and I have no complaintseven though some of them had some bugs. Will certainly look-up the Genesis product, but would still very much welcome input from as manysimmers as possible on this subject.

Basically - freeware mesh is available mostly at avsim and flightsim. The only other 2 we can say - membership based online servers - where you can get access with membership are the FSgenesis and the Mapserver - where you find vast coverages worldwide meshes - available for direct download.you have the link of FSG on above post - and Mapserver at:http://www.fsproject.com/mapserveryou also will find another mesh worldwide coverage at simmarket.com - but it will be much more expensive than the two online server mentioned above - which both are providing a very good service and scenery.luce

Interesting info...I have the mesh mostly from Pietro Mauri - and I like them. I just wonder where are the Scandinavian mesh.. as FSGenesis's mesh cover only Southern parts of Sweden and Norway. Do anyone know if a mesh for Scandinavia is available somewhere?P PulkkinenVihtiFinland

Don't forget Holger Sandmann.

Go with the FREEWARE, IMHO.Why pay when it is avalibale through the good of the Community. The above listed terrain from FsGenesis may meet your needs so feel free to part with your money.Someday, MSFT will simply use the same FREE data that is provided here:http://nationalatlas.gov/atlasftp.htmlOr Here:http://edcsgs9.cr.usgs.gov/pub/data/srtm/Now, I will provide links directly to the Library here that will provide you with a whole bunch of Freeware Mesh.Works for me. :-)1) http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID...&Go=Change+View2) http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID...&Go=Change+View3) http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID...&Go=Change+View4) http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID...&Go=Change+View5) http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID...&Go=Change+View6) http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID...&Go=Change+View7) http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?DLID=...esim&CatID=Root8) http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID...&Go=Change+ViewIf there are others please do a search and link the search so others may find them like I did above. MS did a POOR Job around where I live and the Inland valley of California has a lot of poeple living in it, so I want it closer to realism than what they gave me. (Which is Terrible IMHO.I realize it will take some work, but thanks to the many FREEWARE Contributors out there, like the ones I listed above, we can pretty much do this stuff ourselves, IMHO.I did a calculation of one developer in a different thread, and came up with $26,000 + if they meshed every country on earth with their pricing SCHEME. Now that is pathetic, IMHO.Link for that thread Here:http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...ing_type=searchThank you to the above authors for their contribution to our Hobby.I hope this helps someone.Regards,Joehttp://aboutpolitics.net/images/bannerav.gif.About Politics.net - FORUMShttp://pub162.ezboard.com/baboutpolitics.Contribute to the Richard Harvey Scholarship Fund.http://www.avsim.com/pages/scholarship.shtml
