Question for the programmers out there...

Featured Replies

Being an ex programmer turned commercial pilot, alot of my programming skills have to say it politely been flushed down the toilet (amen)I was thinking about maybe refreshing my skills just for simming, but before I do, I have an idea for a little module, but don't know if it can be done, or where to even start (I posted a similar post on Pete Dowsons forum as well as I suspect the FSUIPC SDK will be needed??)Anyways, I thought it would be kinda neat to have a little module to always FORCE the sim into thinking its under IFR conditions even though its not.. why you ask... I fly in the Hawaiian Islands alot, and in my quest for reality am sick of planes getting cleared in 26R through the mountains when this approach doesn't even exist (Its the LDA 26L and they will sidestep 26R in real life) I've read other posts as well at other airports where this happens... So if you could somehow trick the sim into thinking its below 1000 feet or less than 3 miles vis without actually changing the weather to that, couldn't you always force an instrument approach and kill those Visual approaches through the terrain?Just wondering if something like this is even possible, or am I getting way over my head??Chris

Chris,I suspect that with FSUIPC, what you would be limited to doing is actually changing the conditions to IFR...I believe with AFCAD you can close 26R for landings which would achieve the effect you were looking for.Doug Dawson

Hey Doug,Already tried doing that, unfortuneatly the ATC in FS2004 can over ride any runway closure from what I have read...unless I am doing something wrong, but I recall reading that somewhere??I've got the day off so I'll screw around and see what I can do...Chris
