February 11, 200422 yr I was flying an ILS approach in the realair Cessna in real weather.Because of turbulence I had to execute missed approach. After that I was again directed towards the airport and I got the options to report runway in sight or out of sight. I reported out of sight, and was told where the runway was and to turn towards it but not to descend. This was a IFR flight and the airport should direct me to a localicer intercept I think why not? And it should know that I was inside clouds at that altitude.I run out of fuel and crashed.
February 11, 200422 yr i have has that happen to me on a couple of occasions, i was on an ILS flight in the bahamas and they told me to turn towards the airport and report it in sight, there must be a reason that they didnt tell me to intercept the localiser i guess. another time i was inbound once to 26R and requested 27L, the ATC starts going on about sidestepping etc. so i didnt really know what was going, apparantly i still had to land on 27R which confused me as i thought that i had requested a change...James
February 12, 200422 yr You can only request an approach change, not a runway change. What happened is you were told to approach 27R, but then requested 27L, so ATC gave clearance to approach 27L then sidestep to 27R for landing. Normally this is done when say you are in IMC, and for one reason or the other the active runway(27R) doesn't have ILS, but the 27L does, you do an approach to 27L to "find" the airport then sidestep to 27R when the runway is in sight.NOTE: Only used runway numbers you used, as an example, don't know what navaids the airport you were landing at has... :-outta http://www.flightsimnetwork.com/dcforum/User_files/3e72a43942b48d2b.jpg There is a fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness".- unknown "My daddy gives me up, to fight for you"- a US Military Members Child
February 12, 200422 yr side step--how about side stepping mountains. Like a west to east approach to KLAS. I was vectored right into the side of Mt Charleston. Souvenier hunters can still find mementos of my ATC misadventure. Vectored to 9000 but MSA is 12000, dumb #### ATC in FS2004
