February 12, 200422 yr Hi,Currently I have a Force Feedback MS Sindwinder 2 joystick. Which is good for some games, but not sure if it is ideal for FS. Sometimes it is very difficult to turn using the JS and not loose/gain altitude. After doing some searching on the board I haven't really found an answer, so hoping someone can help. What controller(s) do you guys use? and what do you think is the best controller for FS?Thanks....:)
February 12, 200422 yr Most people are going to say Saitek X45. I have a cyborg evo which I love - very happy with the smooth motion from the spring gimbal and sensitivity. Benefit - I got it for $20 at best buy, otherwise I would have saved up for the X45.EDIT->Plus after years of MS Sidewinder Pro, I've really gotten used to the twisting stick for rudder. Some day I'll get pedals that my kids won't make fun of me for having...right.Best,sg [email protected] | 32gb RAM | EVGA GTX1080 8gb | Mostly P3Dv5 (also IL2:BoX, DCS, XP11)
February 12, 200422 yr HiI have the MSFF2 joystick and IMO its the best FF joystick available. You mentioned difficulty controlling the aircraft, Is this due to the joystick being very limp and loose?, Are you using the MS force feedback in FS9?.Check out this site.http://www.dirks-software.ca/fs-force/index.htm.It is payware software but you can try before you buy.It enables more Joystick resistance as you speed up and a whole lot more, made a world of difference to my flying. All the bestJohn
February 12, 200422 yr Well, I got MSFF2 too, and it's a great joystick IMO. Absolutely great forces and excellent if you combine it with FS Force. I just tried the software (the trial period) and I could say it's awesome, although in the air it performs like a normal joystick, I don't get any force feedback from the surfaces :(. It feels right on the pitch, the joystick will pull forward or back, depending on the speed, but roll is very simple, it just centers. But what you can do, is switch between those two easily, by enabling/disabling the forces in the menu, to which you prefer. I'd like to see FS Force developed so far out, that you feel turbulences and have surface responses and still have the feeling on the ground like it is now. Well, let's hope...Only thing I would like to fix on the joystick is the stick (and I own it now for couple of months). The stick has become a little loose. So when I want to fly extra precise ILS approach, it can get a bit unprecise. I wonder if it can be repaired, although I tried opening the box, just I don't have the appropriate screw driver for those screws. Anyone had any experience on this one, or maybe are there any websites on this matter?
February 13, 200422 yr i've tried the logitech ff and the ms ff2 which i returned. tweaked for a week [rhymes:-}] tried dirks, spent way too much time trying to fly straight n level. made my way back to the wingman extreme 3d. i'm a happy guy. tt
February 13, 200422 yr Thanks for the responses guys.I tried FSForce last night quickly, but I didn't have much time so I may have been doing something wrong. When using it though, the controls were really jerky (as in the force feedback). This was with clear skies, perhaps I need more time to tweak....On another note, do you alter the dead zone or any of the other joystick settings to try and improve your flying experience. I haven't yet, but want to know if it is worth it or not.Cheers...
