December 26, 201114 yr I have come back to Active sky after an extended absence and i now remember why I stopped using AS. In Australia visibility is in METARs is very often reported as 9999 which AS interprets as 10 SM when in fact the true interpretation should be "at least 10SM - in most cases it will be a lot more than this. There is a similar problem with CAVOK. So what this means is that in Australia AS will never report visibility greater that 10SM when the actual visibility will most likely be very different. You can see this when in map mode as you move the mouse pointer from station to station over inland Australia with range set to 300 - every station is reported by AS as having a visiblity of 10SM. This was a hassle five years ago and with AS2012 it is still there. I know you can edit the METAR but this is a rather unsatisfactory way of dealing with the problem.Sorry for the rant but this kinda irritates me.Bruceb Bruce Bartlett Frodo: "I wish none of this had happened."
