The engine sounds in my fsx fade slowly to inaudible and then fade back again to usable. It is a cyclic thing. Every couple of minutes or so. Do I need to tweak something??

Are you using 'onboard' sound or a separate sound card? First thing I would suggest is updating your drivers, followed by running a 'DXDIAG' test.

On board sound. FsX is where this happens. Fs9 is Ok with the sound as is everything else.
