February 15, 200422 yr I am getting closer to upgrading to a new computer. Either a laptop for travel (yet, I doubt there is anything great for simming on in that area ...as good as a desktop machine) or a nice desktop.I recently plugged in a USB virtual pilot pro and was horrified that USB in use, cuts down framerates in FS9 by 40% on my older P4 1.5 with USB v1. Is this the case on a newer computer with the USB2.0? If so I guess I better stay with analog old pilot pro with a new machine.I really love the Saitek stick / throttle combo seen in most stores. It has the most real feeling stick and throttle I have ever felt compared to real aircraft. Is this a great product or not? However with USB, will this be bad for performance on a new P4 3.0GZ? Should I stick with an analog CH products control? Is the Virtual Pilot Pro Throttle any good?I was thinking ofa Dell P4 HTT 3.0GZ / 1 GIG / Radeon 9800.... what kind of performance increase will I see here in FS9? thanks for your input. I was once able to answer these questions myself when I was working in the FS biz years ago, but now I must get help from all you simmers out there. Thanks!Peter
February 16, 200422 yr Author That's way higher than normal. I've run as many as 4 CH USB devices at once and the CPU usage hit is only two or three percent. Seems to me there were some problems that caused that to happen with some of the Windows versions or service packs or combinations of hardware, though. I'd take a trip over to the USBMan's site:http://www.usbman.comMaybe he has some info on it.For info and user opinions on the CH ProThrottle, you might ask over at the CH Hangar:http://www.ch-hangar.comThe site is fairly new but most of the guys over there have ProThrottles and can probably tell you what you want to know.- BobThe StickWorkshttp://www.stickworks.com
