February 18, 200422 yr Just got a new P4 3.2 MHz computer w/XFS FX5600 256MB video card - loaded up FS2004, and now every time I select a weather theme other than Fair weather, I get a CTD out of weather.dll.The status bar never shows any load progress at all before this error occurs. The interesting part is that if I go ahead and pick the fair weather option, the sim loads successfully and once I get into the sim proper, if I then press the alt key and choose the weather change option, it lets me specify any weather theme I want without complaint.I am aware of comments made by Chris Willis in a similar thread in late December regarding the need to make sure one is using 32-bit cloud textures so I went out and made sure I was using Chris's v2 replacement 32-bit cloud textures but it didn't solve this problem.I still have my previous computer (P4 - 1.5 GHz) running elsewhere in the house, and I checked its copy of FS2004 for any evidence of a similar problem under the same conditions - none!Could this be a hyper-threading issue with the 3.2 MHz chip or maybe an NTFS file problem? My new computer is running NTFS whereas the old one is still using FAT 32.Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated?Stan V.
February 18, 200422 yr Commercial Member Hi,Clouds ctd situation is only when the loading ctd to 77% , if you can go in the sim and see menu etc, it is another problems, they are not related to clouds. You can try it.Make sure you are using the default fs2004 clouds first. Since my 32 bits clouds do not covers all clouds, so you can have mixed DXT3 clouds and 32 bits which will cause problems ctd at 77%.After copying the default fs2004 clouds, You able to use my 32 bits clouds set which replace few clouds which will increase performance.I have read somewhere else about weather.dll error, I don't remember whats was the cause.ThanksChris Willis[link:fsw.simflight.com/FSWMenuFsSim.html]Clouds And Addons For MsFs Kind RegardsChris Willis
February 18, 200422 yr Chris,Thanks for your prompt reply. I agree - sounds like a different problem to me too. It may not be related to clouds as you say but the error message says the program stopped in weather.dll. There was a weather.dll problem discussed here before but that was associated with different seasons and I don't believe mine is related to that one either. My cloud set and program versions are the same for both my new and my old computers - only the computers themselves and the varients of Windows XP are different (both are XP but the new computer started with a newer operating system varient.) And when I fail, I never see the progress bar show any loading progress at all before the error occurs - although some time measured in multiple seconds does elapse.Stan V.
