"Taxi Into Position and Hold"

Featured Replies

Hi--does anyone know if there's a way (either via FS9.cfg or another method) to have the ATC engine provide your aircraft with "position and hold" instructions, as opposed to just the AI planes? It's a great enhancement to hear those instructions given to AI planes, but what about for US? It would be a big help, especially for those of us flying the relatively complex aircraft, to be able to be sequenced onto the runway right after a lander, as opposed to being made to sit holding short of the runway--until the AI plane that you waited for rolls to a stop, then takes it's merry time exiting the runway--then having to hurry onto the centerline, fire up your strobes, landing lights, etc., power up, having been cleared to takeoff from the runway hold short point. It seems an unnecessary increase in workload, after a big waste of time being made to sit; there's more than one occasion that I've been kept waiting without need, during in interval in which I could have been positioned on the runway, and then off the ground far sooner!! That's especially aggravating at busy fields, and given the ATC engine's EXTREMELY conservative method of traffic management. An example of that is being told to hold short when the next arrival on the runway in question is on base, and hasn't even turned on final yet!!! :-grr Have any of you found a solution to this, or a way around it (I know that a lot of the FS9 ATC engine shortcomings we have to just grin and bear, but....)

I know I get P&H behind departing planes..., can't say I've ever gotten it for a plane on rollout (FS2004 usually has different runways for landing and departing planes...usually)I can see where it would help tho...Dave

You may want to look at Radar Contact great ATC program. It allows you to choose the runway you want, and will direct you to hold short at your chosen departure runway. It also watches the AI aircraft which are departing in front of you and won't give you clearence for departure until the ones in front of you have departed. If you want more info check out Radar Contact in this forum.Kenny G.

To my knowledge there is no way of changing this with the default ATC engine. However, note that ATC only ever directs aircraft (player and AI alike) to position and hold behind an aircraft taking off, never behind landing aircraft. MK

Just taxy in to position and hold after the landing aircraft passes you. You won't be told off for it and it will give you the time you need. The next instruction will be your take off clearance.Thats what I do anyway.RegardsTimhttp://www.spottedantelope.com/bwomack/ima...aam-sim_sig.gif

The next instruction will be your take off>clearance.Yes... just so long as there isn't a second arrival immediatly following the one that just touched down!Chris

Deal is Tower never knows who might be on an IFR approach since APP never talks to TWR with the FS ATC. TWR knows what VVFR planes are in the pattern or approach but not IFR and thats why we dont get cleared into postion. Hopefully ATC will be the biggest thing MS reworks allowing for a completely new ATC engine offering this plus a lot more. Second thing they need to do is make it where it uses Hyper thread tech.

Interesting as I was taking off from an airport (cant remember name but in north west of Montana) and ATC told me to hold as a cessna came into land. ATC then told it to clear runway and then gave me permission for take off.I may have misread your post about holding behind landing aircraft when I am landing and not taking off.cheersDave
