February 25, 200422 yr After reading the post about add on mesh out there for the US, I decided to try out the preview version of RealScene 2004. I was thoroughly impressed at the improvements to the default FS scenery! Since the Microsoft devs quietly frequent this forum for feedback and thoughts, I'd like to present one:For FS2006, why not:- Rework the scenery engine so that the world is truly round instead of flat... so that airports at extreme longitudes don't seem to shift above their scenery, and aircraft that can fly at higher altitudes might actually be able to see the curvature of the earth.- Along with this huge improvement, why not incorporate some updated mesh/landclass data as Mr. Denney has done? After all, there were certain improvements that could have been done for FS2004 that were overlooked in light of the historic aircraft development (not that I'm complaining, I love the classics!), but for the next FS hardware should be up there enough to warrant higher resolution mesh. My system doesn't do a bad job at all with the higher res mesh, and it's a somewhat modest offering. If filesize is a concern, there could be a "DVD Edition" of Flight Sim that the system could run from. After all, if you've got a system that will run Flight Sim you're typically running a system new enough to include a DVD-ROM drive anyway. For some reason though, I get the feeling that one of the big 'to-do' features in the next version of FS is going to be working weather radar. We've seen dramatic improvement in weather rendering and display, and a working radar would seem to be the next step up.-ken
February 25, 200422 yr I agree with adding the mesh and putting it all on a DVD but would suggest they use the FSGenesis mesh which is constantly updated and undergoes extensive quality control at all stages. You might want to look into this yourself and there are many free downloads of mesh on the fsgenesis website.Bob S Reno, NV
February 25, 200422 yr My wishes are very simple. I hope that a serious competitor to M$ comes out with a real flight simulator. Xplane could be that competitor but Austin is alone against an empire.I heard about a possible release this year of Airline Simulator 3. A world just with M$ products is boring and I wont be depending on it.Roger
February 25, 200422 yr Hi Ken, I tend to like this idea of round world and DVD edition! As for Weather Radar, you may consider looking at this:http://www.reality-xp.comHope this helps!
February 25, 200422 yr >http://www.flat-earth.org/>>Microsoft is just modelling the TRUE earth!>>:-lol>>"While the Society is not a "crackpot" group, it is opposed to the fashionable, politically correct Spherical Earth theory, which is expounded every day by so-called "scientists", the media and political leaders. The Society asserts that the Earth is flat and has five sides, that all places in the Universe named Springfield are merely links in higher-dimensional space to one place... "OMG, I haven't had a laugh that good in a while!!!! Well, I guess my thoughts were completely wrong and Microsoft is in cahooots with these truly wise folks.Ken
February 25, 200422 yr Interesting thoughts and an interesting thread.I to have thought about Mesh, Vis MSFS200X.IMHO, that is one area where MS should devote resources. I mean since they didn't change a whole lot from MSFS2002 Pro, IMHO, they should change at least that crappy mesh we currently have installed.Since the DATA is 100% FREE for them to use, why not. They really have no excuse other than implementing it inside their next UPDATE..errr...Version. ;-)And that way when we have 38.2 dem data integrated into the next version, the payware folks who also get the same FREE data can work on something else, like Photo-realistic scenery and the like. You know I really wish we had terrascene for MSFS2004 like we had for FLY!II, where we were able to put in correct streets, rivers, streams, I could even make out my own street. maybe we done and I have not found it yet. Any Ideas folks? Those were the days, and it was also Free to do. Big files that tok a while to compile, but none the less, a great tool.Thanks,Joehttp://aboutpolitics.net/images/bannerav.gif.About Politics.net - FORUMShttp://pub162.ezboard.com/baboutpolitics.Contribute to the Richard Harvey Scholarship Fund.http://www.avsim.com/pages/scholarship.shtml CryptoSonar on Twitch & YouTube.
February 26, 200422 yr If FS really does use a cylindrical earth, that might explain how I was able to fly Above the Northern Lights in FS2002.David
