February 29, 200422 yr I am using FS2004 on Windows XP, 3.2 MHz CPU, 1 Gb Ram, ATI Mobility 9600 (128 Mb). I have set up an IFR flight from KCMH to KCLE. With the IFR Flight Plan loaded, I am consistently unable to switch from the Ground to the Tower controller to request my IFR takeoff clearance. The problem can happen with any airplane. I have no problems obtaning ATIS, and contacting Clearance Delivery and Ground. The problem popped up after working fine for 2-3 flights. After obtaining a taxiing clearance from Ground, the following choices appear on the ATC dialog box:"Choose an option for Columbus Ground on 121.900"1 - Tune Columbus Tower on 132.7002 - Tune Columbus ATIS on 124.6003 - Cancel IFRWhen I select option 1, I get the following:"Choose an option for Columbus Ground on 121.900"1 - Tune Columbus Ground on 121.9002 - Tune Columbus ATIS on 124.600Note that there is no option to "request takeoff clearance" from tower. If I opt to takeoff without being able to talk to Tower and obtain my takeoff clearance, no handoff to the departure controller occurs. However, when all is working properly, I get the following:"Choose an option for Columbus Ground on 121.900"1 - Tune Columbus Ground on 121.9002 - Tune Columbus ATIS on 124.6003 - Request Takeoff Clearance from Columbus TowerAt which point I can select choice 3, and all works fine from then on.I am puzzled. Has anyone else experienced this problem? Thanks,Juan
February 29, 200422 yr Hi,I think you might not be at the hold for the assigned runway. You will not get takeoff clearance untill you are at that point.
February 29, 200422 yr Yes I think this has happened to me. I did take of anf got no objections. But I think I could contact my destination airportand getting instructions from there. It was other airports then yours and the realair Cessna I used.
March 1, 200422 yr Daniel,That was it! I should have known better. In the real world you would not request a takeoff clearance until you're ready waiting by the holdline at the assigned runway. MS has designed this quite realistic. I actually tested your idea and as long as I taxi within about 50 feet from the holdline, the choice to "request IFR takeoff clearance" appears. If I turn back away from the holdline more than 50 feet, the choice automatically dissapears from the ATC dialog box. Thanks!Juan
