If I re-install Windows 7

Featured Replies

Couple of questions regarding a W7 re-install ---* Do I have to format the ssd that W7 is currently on before I re-install it? (the W7 DVD that came with the pc doesn't say *recovery*)* Will I have to also re-install FSX if it's currently on it's own dedicated drive?* Is it still recommended to follow Nick N's setup guide for both W7 and FSX?THanks -Bruce

If you reinstall Windows 7, your previous registry will be removed. There's a free registry repair tool located at FlightOne - http://www.flight1.com/view.asp?page=library - that might repair the FSX path in the registry so that you won't have to reinstall FSX. I have never used it but heard it works.I don't see any reason why you should have to reinstall Windows 7 or reformat the SSD. Is Windows 7 corrupted? Windows 7 has a repair option - http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/3413-repair-install.html. Perhaps you're trying to go from a 32 bit to a 64 bit Windows 7? If so, a clean install is the only option and you do not have to reformat your SSD.NickN updates his FSX setup guide constantly so it is always up-to-date. It's a good start for FSX to follow his guide then tweak to your preferences. Best regards,Jim

Hi Jim -The reason for the re-install is outlined in my thread below on the catastrophic failure(0x800ffff) that I keep getting when trying to do a system restore.I'll get the regietry repair tool from Flight 1 and see what happens. Thanks for your reply!Bruce
