Flying IFR using FMC and ATC?

Featured Replies

Hey guys, was hoping you could help me out on this one. I'm finally getting the hang of the PMDG and the FMC. I am programming in my routes and ready to go, but one thing, I'm trying to fly out, and ATC won't give me clearance to fly because an airport is currently IFR. I've done IFR clearance through the FS program and created those VOR to VOR routes, but now that I'm using the FMC, I don't file the FSX plan. Can someone provide some advice?Thanks-Bill Johnson

If you not load a flightplan in FSX, you'r always IFR! Matter what you load in the FMC. Use a Route planer (I use EFB) and load the same plan into FSX.Now you can fly the route with FMC and ATC, but when you reach your destination, the ATC use his own route to the runway. So turn off LNAV and VNAV and fly the route with manual setting of course, speed and alt.

So can I import that into FSX? Is that where I can "load" a flight plan?

If you use a program like EFB, Flightsim Commander, fsbuild etc. save your plan as FSX and PMDG, then load both plans for your flight, one into your FMC and one in your FSX Flight-planer.

Try VATSIM!

If you are going to use default ATC, something else has to be less realistic. Or if you're going to fly a flight like it would really be flown (a real flight plan and procedures), you cannot use default ATC. The default ATC is probably the most unrealistic things in all of FS.VATSIM is probably a huge step for you right now, but maybe try out Radar Contact, although not perfect, it's the best you're going to get without talking to real controllers.

I'm running world of AI, so I've got the traffic, but as you know it's a big mess trying to land at any airprot. Does Vatsim or RC help deal with that?

Well with VATSIM there isn't any AI traffic because the planes are all other real people, and the real controllers do a good job of moving the planes in and out. Can' speak for RC though.
