I am getting crazy trying to set the weather to be the most realistic possible.I tried Real world weather (that comes with FS), then Active Sky and then FS Metar, and Vatsim weather when flying online.Above the others, I prefer Active Sky because it causes the best turbulence, and with low clouds density, FPS remain acceptable. I use it to the point that when I fly online I have the program running. The only problem that I have with Active Sky is that I am not being able to have any wind when I am on the runway, taking off or landing, and the winds start blowing like at 1k ft AGL. I thought I was being lucky and winds were calm, but then tried with FS Metar and real world weather and there was always wind. With FS Metar I got some turbulence and winds everywhere, but the program increases the clouds density, and this, together with turbulence and AI traffic kill my FPS, making ATC sttuter, and finally shutting down my dial up connection.I tried everything in FSUIPC, but cannot make Active sky to blow winds at low altitudes, which is a shame, cause crossed winds are really interesting when landing.Any ideas that could help? Thanks,Leo

Hi Leo,Weird thing is that you can't get Activesky blow below 1000ft AGL, maybe it's a setting in AS alone?Another thing, if this is an AS question then it belongs into AS forum where it's going to be answered very quick.

I tried, but the forum keeps insisting on asking me for my username and password, after I am logged, and doesn't allow me to create a new account because my e-mail already exists in the data base. I don't know what the problem is, since I had AS for a long time and I recall having wind on the runway when I started using it.Leo

Leo,"I don't know what the problem is, since I had AS for a long time and I recall having wind on the runway when I started using it."There is a setting in the "Options" settings in AS for Surface or Runway winds (I don't recall exactly because I'm old).If you don"t find it go to Active Sky Support Forum here at Avsim.Hope this helps,JackD

Hi Leo,Sorry you are having trouble with the ActiveSky forum. Not sure what is going on there! It sounds like you have maximum surface wind limit enabled in AS2004. Make sure this is disabled. Also, you didn't mention what the METAR was, but it could be possible that the winds for the data you used WERE in fact very light. Make sure when comparing live data that you are using ONLINE Updates and/or a current download.Hope that helps!

Damian:Thanks for posting. I was expecting you to appear. Maybe you remember me as big fan of AS.Be aware of the following: my FS is 2002, my AS is version 1.5 (freeware), my FSUIPC is 2.975 (freeware). If there's any way I can change the settings of this AS version please let me know, since I never found it.To those that are about to tell me that I should upgrade to FS 2004, let me tell you that first I need a bigger computer (256Mb RAM, 1k processor)No, unfortunately I have no winds on the runway or below 1k AGL no matter where I am and no matter how the real weather is.Well, although I did everything I could with FSUIPC I couldn't solve the problem, I even uninstalled AS and FSUIPC with no results. It looks as though my next step is to uninstall FS2002, after doing a good back up of all the settings I like.Any help please, so I can avoid doing this.Damian, 1 more question: which are the benefits of having the payware version of AS instead of the freeware? I love the freeware version anyway.Leo

Hi Leo,I think the problem is in the fact that you are using our free version. Last summer, NOAA changed the format of their METARs, especially affecting the winds portion of the METAR. Due to circumstances beyond our control, no update can be made. Some free version users have suggested to use the VATSIM option, at least for departing and destination winds.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Support
