Fluctuating FPS with FS9

Featured Replies

I'm curious if anyone has this or a similiar problem, or better yet..... a freebie cure :)The FPS fluctuates quite bit while flying, and I'm not talking about dropping lower while flying over a congested area with a lot of AI flying around or heavy scenery, I mean flying anywhere. I have 512 Meg Ram, AMD 2400+ and GeForce Ti200 video card. If I'm flying a default aircraft my frame rates in KSLC will fluctuate between 15 and 7FPS every few seconds.... up and down and inbetween constantly. In more rural areas it will increase to 20FPS.Adjusting the sliders on terrain detail and such really doesn't make that big of a difference, they still fluctuate. Even changing from 3D to simple clouds doesn't do much. Do this sound normal? Just curious. Anybody have a similiar system? What do you get on your FPS?Thanks for any suggestions or opinions.Dave

Lock them :)And you might consider getting replacement textures for lots of stuff - clouds, autogen, disable autogen in fs9.cfg and autogen.xml etc...Even on my computer, I tend to make it fast through lots of replacement, and less autogen - Autogen = FPS killer. And distance view and so on...But problem is also you have to know that your PC is not a killer system. So really consider going down...

Your system might need some work. I run an AMD 1900 and 512 RAM and with that video card was getting 20 FPS. Now I have an 9800XT and get 25-30. I would make sure all drivers are up to date, including MB chipset.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Support

AI also has a big effect.Allcott

Im running a 3 ghz PIV with 1G of ram and a Radeon 9800. I still get fluctiations in fps. I get nice frame rates, even with sliders up pretty high, but the fluctiations have always been there. Sometimes they get pretty big even without AI, I think there is nothing we can do about it, its the program. I can be sitting still on a ramp in a default aircraft an see it go from 50 to 35 and back again in a few moments, even a second or so. There is something wrong with the way things are displayed or the graphics engine. I think everyone sees this, its more prevalent if you unlock frames. personally it runs better here if frame rate is unlimited, i get better frames overall and if it does jump around I dont notice it much, still seems pretty smooth. If I limit to 25 or so I get stutters. I have all the tweaks/fixes/textures/etc. Some folks notice it more than others thats all.Hornit
