This just in: Gremlins cause hard stutter, I swear!

Featured Replies

I posted a few moons ago that I would get a brief but recurrent hiccough when flying the NGX and others chimed in w/ possible solutions including disabling auto-save in FSUIPC, nV driver issues, interference from FSPax, the latest service pack, etc. My issue seemed to disappear more or less after installing one of the SP's. I have had this happen a few times lately again, seemingly right out of nowhere. I've rebooted and had this nasty stutter (it's more like a 1-second complete pause) happen again despite reboots. The most recent change I made that I could think of was changing AA transparency from none to Supersampling a few weeks ago. I started thinking, w/ higher end driver settings and the no buffer pools tweak, maybe there just wasn't enough capacity in the video subsystem to handle the load and things would just get kinda clogged up. Recalling this, I tried disabling the setting using nV inspector. Restarted FSX and voila, no more hard stutter. Great! Tonight I decided to set it back on Supersampling, and this time, no problem whatsoever. No hard stutter! It's peculiar how issues will crop up leading one to start looking for solutions, and one has to wonder if they wouldn't fix themselves most of the time w/o any intervention at all given enough re-tries! It seems the only thing I did differently is toggle the driver setting, but who would think that wasn't a red herring! Gremlins, I swear! I've had this happen so many times before where FSX just doesn't run as great as it normally does, seemingly right out of the blue, or the overcast as it were! I shut down most unnecessary services too, and use no A/V software, and even disable Windows Defender. Gremlins, I swear!Noel
