March 11, 200422 yr I have all the packages of PAI and heard that some people are changing their models with AIA models. Are they that much better? Is it alot of work to change them? Is there a tutorial on how to change them without messing up my AI traffic? Any input would be appreciated. Thanks!
March 11, 200422 yr Are they that much better? When I first started messing with AI, I found the PAI models had much higher poly counts than the AIA ones. So I started using AIA. As far as the flight dynamics, I haven't really investigated. Is it a lot of work to change them?If you feel comfortable downloading and installing 3rd party aircraft, then I would say no. I recommend obtaining the freeware program AITM 2.0 to make the changes to your traffic file. The first step is to download the MS SDK for aircraft container, or read any of the online tutorials for installing aircraft and editing aircraft.cfg file. Assuming you understand the layout and editing of aircraft.cfg, and the process for installing repaint (texture) folders, proceed as follows:1. Download and install any AIA models and repaints as desired.2. Using notepad or other text editor, edit the title= line for each txture variation in aircraft.cfg for something meaningful. For example title=AIA B737-400 southwest3. Using AITM and the included Traffic Tools decompile any or all of the traffic files currently in your FS9 (the help for AITM and TTools walk you through this).4. Open the decompiled flightplan in AITM. Select the flightplan aircraft editor tool from the dropdown menu. You will be presented with two windows with lists of aircraft titles. The top window is a list of aircraft currently in the flightplan. The bottom window is a list of all aircraft installed. 5. There are a couple of ways to proceed. This is what I do.6. Scroll through the bottom window until you find the AIA aircraft you want to use (eg. AIA B737-400 southwest) highlight it and click the add button. The aircraft title will now appear at the end of the list in the top window. At this point the AIA aircraft is available for AI but no flightplans are assigned to it.7. I'm not sure if this is necessary, but I find the "speed" used in the PAI aircraft you are replacing, and change the speed in the new AIA one to match using the "speed" click button.8. In the middle scroll box, scroll down until you find the new AIA aircraft. Go to the top window and highlight the PAI aircraft you are replacing, then click the "substitute" button. You should get an alert that some flightplans have been modified.9. At this point, the file is ready to be saved and compiled, but to keep things clean I do the following:10. Write down the aircraft number for the PAI aircraft you just subsituted for.11. In the top window highlight the PAI aircraft and click the delete button. You should get an alert saying 0 flightplans deleted (if not something went wrong, and you will need to start over again.12. In the top window highlight the AIA aircraft you added and use the "number" button to edit the aircraft number of the new AIA aircraft to that which you recorded for the PAI one. I do this, because there is a convention used by PAI and others to assign aircraft numbers to specific airlines and aircraft models.13. Now you can save and compile the flightplans using TTools.scott s..
